By now your child should have received their copy of the book - "My Most Favorite Book in the Whole Wide World." Have this book as you log in to our Zoom call as we will read it together as a community and complete a follow up activity about the book!
At this event we will also be sharing more information about our READMarathon Challenge that will be kicking off next week!
Please join us for this wonderful opportunity to bring the LUCHA community together. All students that join will be given a free dress pass!
Please check your child's blue folder!
Today you will be receiving important information from the San Jose Public Library as well as the order form for this Friday's School Picture Day!
Picture Day
During this day, we will be taking both individual (with masks off) and class pictures (with masks on). Uniforms are required.
If you are interested in purchasing a picture day package, please visit www.mylifetouch.com and referencing picture day ID: EVT7XZ339
Order forms were also distributed in today's blue folder and can be turned in with your child directly to the photographer on the day of (not later order forms will be accepted so remind your child the importance of taking it out of their backpack or just order online!)
Pool Testing by Concentric
We started pool testing today with our 3rd-5th grade LUCHA leaders and it went super smoothly! Next week we will add in our TK-2nd grade students and will continue testing every Wednesday!
If any positive cases arise from our pool results, we will conduct rapid testing with that group on Friday!
Here is an overview presentation we provided to the students prior to testing:

Los Dichos
Thank you to our awesome Los Dichos volunteers that kicked off our program this week by reading our first book "Biblioburro".
This story is inspired by the heroic efforts of a real-life librarian Luis Soriano. He has a mobile library that travels over rural Colombia to bring access to books to remote communities.
This month’s Dicho: ““The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” (Dr. Seuss)
Ideas to reinforce the message at home:
Visit your local library (use your brand new SJPL Library Card!!!)
Talk about your child’s and your favorite book. If you don’t have one yet, find it!
Join our LUCHA Family Night!
If you would like more information about our Los Dichos program, please contact Ms. Rubi at (408) 928-8314 or rubi.solis@arusd.org or visit the Project Cornerstone website at www.projectcornerstone.org.

Kimochis Communication Key #3
This week we will be learning Kimochis Key #3 - using a talking face and body instead of a fighting face and body. This is our chance to teach students how to read facial expressions and body language.
We also will specifically be using the nonverbal, nonviolent communication tools of the Talking Hand and Stop Hand to help resolve upset feelings and conflict in the heat of an emotional moment.
After School Program
If your child has still not been included in the YMCA program and you are still interested in securing a spot for your child, please reach out to our site director, Danery Cervantes at danery.cervantes@ymcasv.org or (408) 708-6124.
We are working hard to hire additional staff to accommodate our community need!
