September Kindness Challenge
Keeping our Focus on Kindness
This year at Madison elementary we are focusing on kindness and being kind to one another all year long. This is a great life skill that serves our students for years beyond their elementary education.
Last week we had our kick-off kindness week and gave the students information about the different ways we will be encouraging them to show kindness, not only at school but at home and in the community as well.
The biggest way we are emphasizing kindness is through monthly KINDNESS CHALLENGES.
Last week students were issued their first kindness challenge of “passing on kindness”. If they chose to accept the challenge they learned simple ways they could pass on kindness and compliments at school.
Each month there will be a new challenge issued to students. These challenges are often extension activities they can do independently or at home. They will have the whole month to complete the challenge. Once they are complete they can hand them in at our KINDNESS CASE located across from the cafeteria. Students that participate and complete the challenges may be asked to help spread kindness in our building in many different ways for that month. This is why it is very important that all challenges are handed in with first and last names on them.
The kindness challenge for September is Kindness Tic Tac Toe. Play with parents, siblings or a friend. It is a fun way to pay kindness forward.
Controlled Entrance at Madison
In the last weeks of May 2018, USD 231 implemented "Controlled Entry" for student and staff safety. Based on feedback from the community, school staff, and law enforcement, the following changes will be implemented at all of the elementary schools and will be using the same locking procedures and times for consistency. Below are the times the front doors and the office will be open and closed for entrance into the building:
- The Office & Front Vestibule Doors will be unlocked each morning at 7:45 am.
- The Office & Front Vestibule Doors will be locked each morning at 8:25 am.
We ask that students do not arrive prior to 7:45 as we do not have any staff members present to supervise and the front doors will be locked. To avoid students from standing outside, please arrive after 7:45.
There is also a change from last Spring - at no time after school will the office or vestibule doors be unlocked. The Madison JCPRD staff has posted at the front door a number for parents to call to signal a JCPRD employee to allow students enrolled in JCPRD and their families to gain access to the building both before 7:45 am and after 3:25 pm.
We thank you for your support and understanding as we implement measures to keep our students and staff safe before and after school.
If you have questions, please let me know.
Sincerely,
Dr. Wachel
