OCTOBER 2019
A Message from Principal Williams
Hello Skyhawk Families!
How did we get to October already? We have gotten off to a great start here at Skyridge and are well on our way through the school year. In fact, last week we already passed the 10% point of our school year. As always, thank you for sending us such great students to work with. It truly is a pleasure to work at Skyridge and I tell everyone that I can that we have great kids and families, which makes it a great place to work. This year’s group of students is no exception.
I wanted to take a little time to tell you about our new acronym here at Skyridge. As a staff, we have been working on this for the last 2 years. Our goal was to create an acronym that was easy to remember and captured our beliefs and goals as we work with your middle school students. After identifying those ideals and working through a process that helped create a memorable acronym, I am happy to report that we have a winner!
We are currently working on finishing the definitions of these words as they apply to our daily activities at Skyridge, but you will begin to see this all over our building. We have shared it with the kids and are excited to see it play out throughout this and subsequent school years. In conjunction with this, our ASB team has adopted the motto of “Keep It Kind” in support of the kindness portion of this work.
Finally, I wanted to let you know that we have hired some additional staff to help support the growth that we experienced late in August, and they should be starting with us sometime this upcoming week. We are going to start with them working within our larger classes in the 7th and 8th grade to support our staff and students and to build relationships with both groups. As we move through the year, we will evaluate this arrangement and may create some additional class sections to help lower class sizes. We will be communicating with all families as we make these adjustments. The cornerstone of our work in middle school is building relationships between teachers and students, so we want to be mindful of this as we work to determine the best possible route to support our students.
I hope your students have felt as good about the start of the year as I have, and I am excited to see as many of you as possible at our Hawktoberfest parent experience night on Thursday, October 3. As always, if you have questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact us.
Go Skyhawks!
