Kennedy School News

March 2nd - March 6th

Tardies

There has been an increased number of tardy students at Kennedy School. Morning routines are always more difficult when it is cold outside. Mrning supervision outdoors (on the drop-off lane) begins at 7:40am. School starts at 7:55am. Any child arriving after 8am must enter through the main doors. Please do not let your child out of the car in the drop-off lane if you do not see staff members on the line, or if it is after 8am. Please make a conscious effort to get your child to school on time.

Please note that the district is actively monitoring your child's attendance at school. We are required by the state to file truancy for students who are absent 5% or more of the school year (9 unexcused absences).

Instructional time is precious and we expect parents to ensure that students arrive on time and ready to learn. Modeling prompt arrival to school is important in preparing students for success.

Scholastic Book Fair

Our Spring book fair will be here soon! Students will browse the books on March 16th and 17th. Students will be able to buy books on March 18th and 19th. The book fair will also be open the evening of the Talent Show (March 19th)

Kindergarten Information Night

We would like to invite you to attend an informational meeting for incoming Kindergarten parents.

If you have a child who will be entering Kindergarten next school year, please attend the Kindergarten Information Night.

We hope to provide an overview of what to expect in Kindergarten and how we can begin your child's wonderful educational journey together.

Keep Contact Information Current

Please be diligent to keep your child's information current with our school office. If you have new telephone numbers, new email, or new emergency contact information, please make sure to let our office staff know. Thank you!

Parking Lot

You may have noticed that the lanes of the South parking lot have been coned off during arrival & dismissal. Due to the snow mounds, the parking spots in the South Lot are needed for faculty/staff at Kennedy.

Please keep in mind parking is available behind Kennedy School on Scott Street, should you choose not to utilize the service provided in the drop off circle.

Thank you for your patience during arrival and dismissal as our top priority is student safety.

Illinois 5 Essentials

School District 81 will join other districts across the state in participating in the Illinois 5Essentials Survey. The survey is now open, and will remain open until March 13th. The survey data will provide feedback that will help shape and guide our improvement efforts. All District 81 teachers, parents, and our middle school students will be asked to participate. Please note that students will be taking the survey at school.

The Parent Survey

Your feelings about your child’s education are important, and we are grateful for this opportunity to receive your thoughts and feedback. Your identity is not shared with District 81, and your responses are kept confidential.

To take the survey please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois and select the PARENT survey to begin. You will then need to type “Cook” into the County field. Type in the school that your child attends, and then select the correct school from the dropdown box.
