Sally Ride
Early life;
Sally was born May 26th, 1951 in Los Angeles, California. After high school she went to college at Stanford University in California. Here she got her bachelors, masters, and doctorate degree in physics. After she graduated, she applied for NASA in 1977. She was one of six selected.
Who is she?/Acheivments
In 1983 she was the first American women to fly in space. Sally is the founder of "Sally Ride Science" and "Sally Ride science festivals." She went to space from June 18th to June 24th, 1983. She did a lot in space;
-launched communication satellites
-tested remote manipulator arm
-measured the suns effect on earths weather
Later life
In 1987 Sally retired from NASA and became professor at The University of California; San Diego. She decided that she wanted to encourage women to study math and science. So she came up with the earthKAM project, which made a program where students can select, shoot, study pictures of the earth. Also, in 2003 she was added to NASA's hall of fame. But unfortunately on July 23rd, 2012 she died after a long hard battle with pancreatic cancer.
