Principal's Message
#bewitty
Be witty is the theme I was going to write on this week. But I couldn't figure out where or how it would fit in so... I'm exercising my privilege to talk about something else.
The month of March has been the month of PARCC testing. We're essentially finished with a few make ups and a few small groups that still need to complete a test. As I reflect back on the past month, I am struck by a conversation that my wife and daughter had about PARCC testing.
My daughter is in 8th grade and edging a little further into the "too cool for school" camp. She was talking/complaining about having to take PARCC. and how so many other kids are not taking it and she didn't think she should have to take it because it's dumb...
I've tried to help my kids understand, in some way, the rationale behind taking standardized tests and have succeeded to a greater or lesser extent. But she didn't come to me with her complaint. She came to my wife.
My wife's response... [This is me slightly paraphrasing.] Suck it up kid, sometimes we have to do things we don't want to do in life. This is just one example so, it's time to learn, do your best and just do it.
Maybe you had the same conversation with your child, this month.
I think it's imperative that we help our kids learn that lesson. I get to chalk one up for my wife who drove the point home with our daughter. There's value in that lesson. It's not about conformity. It's about doing what is expected, even when it's not something preferred.

2017 PARCC Testing Reminders - Make Ups
Upon our return from Spring Break, any student who missed any portion of PARCC or the Illinois Science Assessment (grade 8 only) will be scheduled at some point in time during their school day for make up exams. We are working on a schedule and will communicate with the necessary students, so that they are aware. Note: students will be responsible for making up any missed work due to make up testing.
