Mrs. Gabbard's Class News

This week:

This week in Language Arts we have had so much fun learning that a compound word is two words put together to make one word. We read books with compound words. We played stand up, hand up pair up to make compound words and we tried to use a compound word in our writing.

The sight words for next week are: away, came, have & little

If your child has not mastered the sight words for quarters 1-3 please practice them often.

In math we learned about the clock, a.m., p.m. and practiced telling time to the hour and half hour. We also learned about analog clocks and digital clocks. It is fun when I have little time keepers in the classroom that can use their new skills to keep us on schedule and arriving at things on time. Please encourage them to practice telling time at home.

This week students used their research on community helpers to begin a rough draft of a non-fiction book on the subject. We discussed all the components they needed to include to make it a non-fiction book. We look forward to possibly sharing our books at the Job Fair and again at the Pancake Breakfast.

It has been a great week, thank you for sharing your children with me!

What happened at school this week?

Want to get your kiddo talking about what they are doing here at school? Here are a couple questions/subjects to help guide the discussion:

* What kind of book are you writing?

* What is a compound word, can you give me an example?

* What time is it? Tell me about the clock?

Community Helper Job Fair

Over the next several weeks kindergarteners will be researching a community helper that they are interested in learning more about. On March 27th and 28th students will present their learning in a job fair. Students will select the job they will research and I will communicate that with you. We would like all students to be able to wear something that represents the community helper that they have selected. Please help your student put together what they could wear that would show the job they chose to learn about. There is no need to buy anything. I will encourage them to be creative and use what they have. If you need something from me please let me know. In addition if you have something that may be helpful to another and you would like to share please feel free to send it in with your name marked on it. This is one of my favorite projects all year. I look forward to partnering with you to make it a fun learning experience for our kids. Thank you in advance for your support.

Discovery News

Hello wonderful parents! This is Mrs. Foust with our news from Discovery. Kindergarten classes continued our Jump Rope for Heart practice this week. We have tried traditional jump ropes, ball ropes, and long ropes. Ask your child about his/her favorite way to jump! Students also created a dot rainbow for art this week. It was fun to see all the colorful rainbows! Next Friday is our actual Jump Rope for Heart day! Be sure to wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes.
