Read, Read, Read
- Research shows that reading 20 minutes a day can improve your child's reading success.
- Getting a library card is free and easy! Check out Stokes Brown Public Library at 405 White Street, Springfield, TN 37172, or call (615)384-5123.
Studies have shown that kids can lose up to 25 percent of their reading skills over the summer months which can have a significant impact on their ability to get back into the school swing in the fall. Research shows that reading just six books over the summer months can go far in keeping students on track when they return to the classroom.
- Find something to read every day.
- Find things your kids want to read.
- Read out loud.
Lets Keep Those Math Minds Sharp!
- When playing outside games or sports have your kids calculate the distance.
- Cook with your children and have them practice measurements.
- Help your children practice fractions by cutting an apple up in 1/2, then 1/4, then 1/8, etc.
- Let teens get in on the trip-planning action by setting a budget, calculating fuel needs, or figuring the distance between destinations.
Give your family one-half hour every day to read, work on math problems, or indulge in fun activities like brain teasers or crossword puzzles. If the whole family gets involved, the children may not mind the thinking part of the activity quite as much. Brainteaser books can often be found at the dollar store, or at the library.
Check out the Summer Fun Activities in the Springfield Community.

Have A Great Summer!
Dear Summer, you're always my favorite.
I really do like you a lot.
You come every year,
And I'm glad when you're here.
I don't even mind that you're hot.
Dear Summer, whenever you visit,
I love to go outside to play.
I get to wear shorts
And play summertime sports,
Or sometimes do nothing all day.
I put on my goggles and swimsuit,
And head for the beach or the park.
I go for a hike
Or I ride on my bike,
And stay awake long after dark.
