Important Information for You!
Data Days this Week
Thank you for all the meaningful conversations around students, learning, and growth this past week. I look forward to our school follow-up discussion at Wednesday's staff meeting.
Valentine’s Day is Fast Approaching
As you prepare for Friday, February 14th and your classroom celebration, please remember
to update the office. We get many calls from parents and it is helpful to hear from you so we
can answer questions. Please send your details to Anna or Sue by Friday, January 31st. Oh, an added bonus for Valentine’s Day is that it is the next District Jeans Day. Your $5 donation will go toward supporting Project Graduation! Also, if your class will be having breakfast at
your parties, please let the kitchen staff know so they can plan their numbers accordingly.
Winter Gear
Given the winter season of snow and no snow (aka mud), please take time to teach a lesson
on your expectations for how students should store their boots and winter gear. I appreciate your attention to this as it makes the hallways safer, look better and easier to travel.
Grant Opportunity
The Southeast County Chapter of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel has an annual competitive grant opportunity for teachers in the area. This is an opportunity for an interested educational employee (clerical, food service, teachers, administrators, etc.) to potentially receive a grant ranging from $50 to $500 (although last year there were $1800 grants awarded) for their interest and desire to implement a project that will improve the educational experience/environment. Check out the email from Mr. Lobban, dated Jan. 8th for more info. Grant applications are due by May 10th, 2020. In addition, now is also the time to get your creative juices going for DEF Grants or Academic Scholar. It is never to early to begin work so that it is not a rush job later on.
Family Reading Night
After a review of the contract, speaking with Sara Howes, and calculating the number of hours (Open House, 1 1/2 hours; PTO 1 1/2 hours; Family Game Night, 2 hours) we are only at a total of three events and 5 hours for mandatory after school events. Therefore, we have agreed that Family Reading Night for staff will be from 4:30-7:00 p.m. This will allow time for set-up...many hands make light work.
A Little Winter Art!
Emergency Flip Charts
All classrooms and offices are receiving new emergency flip chart information and the emergency drill procedure posters. We will be going over these at an upcoming staff meeting.
In order to ensure that the flip charts are all put together the same way, Nicole Sawdon will be coming around and changing out your directions. Once yours has been updated, you will want to review it prior to our next staff meeting, February 3rd.

Celebrations & Announcements
Birthdays This Week: Roy Hall, February 7th...Happy, happy birthday to you!
Kudos & Thank You!
To Keegan for creating a Weebly page that includes at-home reading resources for parents and sending it to Michelle Edwards for our Thomson Page on the District website. I appreciate you seeing a need and running with it. Please check it out and if you have ideas of things to add, let me know...and then let's be honest, I will get with Keegan on how to do this. Check out the link to the Weebly: https://thomsonelementary.weebly.com/. As I shared this is available as a link through out Thomson page as well. Thanks again Keegan for getting this started.
Also, thank you to Keegan for riding the bus with one of his student this week who was struggling at the end of the day. I didn't even know what was happening until the bus had already pulled out. Also, thank you to Erin and Christine for helping ensure safe transfer at Central and that Keegan could get back to Thomson from Montessori. Given that I had CMC, I appreciate your time and doing what was needed for this little guy!
Also, big kudos to all of you for really hyping up the 'Gold Tickets'. I think one of my favorite parts was how happy kids were for other kids who earned them! Here's to a successful week two of our Cardinal Code Relauch!
GOLDEN TICKETS & Cardinal Code Sheets!
