The Week in Review
It has been so great to see the students adapt so quickly and so well to their new situations! I'd like to give partial credit to us teachers as well, adapting to them, but seriously, your children have done an incredible job of carrying over their great habits from lower grades as we move into upper elementary. I was so impressed the first day with those who came in ready to go, eager to listen, and willing to work!
We didn't just draw and color all week though. Going with our school theme this year of "Austin's Got Talent" 4E got to describe what their talents were on video, and put that on the bulletin board for the entire school to come by and see. If you get a chance, stop by C105 with your smart device, and scan some of the QR codes and you will hear from the students themselves what makes them unique and talented individuals!
Every section, 4A, 4B, & 4E, is set and ready to go for Tuesday. Science Journals are labeled with their names and custom "decorated" covers so that each student knows which one is theirs, but more importantly, to make it unique! After our covers were completed we got right down to work with our first activity we call "Draw a Scientist." In this activity, the students were asked to draw a scientist. The guidelines were vague to encourage the creativity aspect, as some students drew themselves, scientists they knew or had studied, and even some of their parents! We finished on Friday discussing just how much science is happening in the world we live in, and how WE ARE ALL SCIENTISTS!
This week we also talked a lot about expectations: Expectations I have for them, some they have for me, and how we can value and respect one another thru those. Two things we can always control: Our attitude and effort. We show up everyday with integrity and intention, working as hard as we can to be the best (YOUR NAME HERE) we can be that day. We compare ourselves not to one another, but to ourselves from yesterday. You vs. Yesterday is what I like to call that, and it's companion Win The Day. We will use those two things over the course of this year as we evaluate ourselves thru self-reflection.

Orange Tuesday
NUT FREE SNACKS PLEASE
Due to food allergies across the grade level, we are asking that any snack that is brought to school please be nut free. This is not to be confused with lunches that are brought from home as well. Since we eat snacks in our classrooms, we need to maintain the standard across classroom and over the grade level. Please help us maintain a safe learning environment for ALL by cooperating with this request. We sincerely appreciate it.
