What is cyberbullying?
Bullying is when people use there social status or physical appearance to intimidate someone smaller than them or someone that doesn't have the same social status of that person, Cyber bullying is when people do the same as bully but use the internet to embarrass socially
Examples of Cyberbullying
- Mean text messages or emails
- Rumors sent by email or posted on social networking sites
- Embarrassing pictures, videos, websites or fake profiles
Three differences between cyberbullying & bullying
- cyber bullying is of digital communications-tools to make another person feel sad, angry, self conscious
- cyber bullying messages and images can be uploaded anonymously and distributed quickly to a very wide audience
- deleting inappropriate or harassing messages are hard to delete after they have posted
Effects of cyberbullying
- Use of alcohol and drugs
- Skip school
- Experience in-person bullying
- Be unwilling to attend school
- Receive bad grades
- Have low self esteem
- Have more health problems
Prevention and awareness
- Know the sites your kids visit
- Ask them for their passwords and tell them you'll only use them in case of a emergency
- Ask to friend or follow them on social media sites
- Encourage your kids to tell you immediately if they, or someone they know, being cyber bullied
- Have a sense of what they do online and text
Establishing rules
- Be aware of what your kids do online
- Establish rules about technology use
- Understand school rules
Reporting a cyberbullying
- Don't respond to or forward cyber-bullying messages
- Keep evidence of cyber bullying
- Block the person that is bullying
