THE HATTER UPDATE (Feb. 15, 2022)
THE COMMUNICATION FORUM FOR HIGH SCHOOL FAMILIES
ATTENDANCE - REMINDER
Being on time for school is critical for student success. Students who are on time have time to mentally get settled and prepared for their day and get the benefit of all the content of their first-period class. The first period BEGINS at 7:30 am. This means that students must be in the classroom at that time. Students arriving late to school will immediately meet with one of the administrative assistants or our Dean of Students who will be monitoring student arrival. Understanding that sometimes there are traffic patterns or issues that occur in the morning that may be out of a student's control, we provide a fresh start each semester. Students who have 3 unexcused tardies to school will be issued a final warning and email communication will be sent home. The 4th unexcused tardy and beyond will result in the accumulated after-school detention for EACH tardy. Thank you for your help with this as we work to provide a smooth start to our day for teachers and students.
COURSE SELECTION PERIOD
Grades 9-11 Course Selection for 2022-2023 School Year
Course selection is a critical step in the academic planning process. Hatboro-Horsham HS believes that accepting responsibility for decisions is an integral part of the educational and learning process. Course selection should be completed thoughtfully and carefully after realistic self-evaluation and considerable dialogue with teachers, counselors, and parents/guardians. We hope that in streamlining this guide, your child will be able to make informed course selection decisions based on career paths and interests.
Families can find the course selection guide here - https://www.hatboro-horsham.org/Page/768
COURSE SELECTION TIMELINE
I. Students will complete course selection between February 7 – February 16. Students will utilize the ClassChoice program to complete their selections. An email will be sent to students with more information.
II. Each student will have an individual meeting with their counselor regarding their course selections. Information for counselor meetings will be emailed to students in February. If the selections have been carefully made, changes should not be necessary, except in unusual situations. If a student wishes to request a change, they must meet with the school counselor before the deadline for changes to course selections - that date is March 25, 2022. Student choices will be made available for families to view through PowerSchool. Families will receive an email alert) in March that provides access. We cannot stress enough the importance of carefully considering and selecting courses during this time.
ACT 158 FAMILY NIGHT
There have been some significant changes in state guidance regarding graduation requirements for students in the Class of 2023 and beyond. Those guidelines address five distinct pathways that students must meet in order to graduate. Based on the information and the impact on a student's graduation status, the high school will be offering an ACT 158 Family Night on February 28th at 6:30 pm. The event will walk parents/guardians through the five pathways, as well as the next steps. You can find updated information on the pathways by viewing a new document that was just added to the website last week. you can find it here - https://www.hatboro-horsham.org/Domain/859

BLACK HISTORY MONTH
Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating Black history. Below you will two events that we are extremely excited about that will take place the rest of this month as part of the celebration of Black History.
SPRING SEMESTER BTSN
The spring semester Back to School Night will take place this Thursday, February 17th. This semester, we will provide two options for families. We have worked to create both because we have segments of our parent/guardian population who want in-person meetings and segments interested in a remote option for various reasons. The first half of our BTSN window will be live at the high school. The second half of the BTSN window will be virtual. You can find the schedule in the attachment below. MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CHILD(REN) GIVES YOU A COPY OF THEIR SCHEDULE OF CLASSES.

As covid cases have been reduced, we now have the ability to invite a limited number of spectators to our evening gym night. However, based on the redesigned orientation of the gymnasium and how students will be seated, we are unable to invite everyone to view gym night live and in person.
