Winter Wonderland Festivities, a Garage Sale, and Door Decorating

During our final school week of December we had a variety of fun activities and events at our school. One such opportunity was a Garage Sale where students cashed in their Raptor Tickets, which they received for good behavior choices. There were a lot of items students could choose from, including Apple watches, an iPad-mini, a pedal tractor, new Nike shoes, various toys, lots of clothes, gingerbread houses, and many more.

Also that final week, our classes competed in a Winter Door Decorating Contest, in which students worked together to create festive doors for the holidays. The doors were judged by their Creativity and Design, Quality of Construction, Embodiment of the Theme (which was “Raptors in a Winter Wonderland”), and Student Collaboration. We had an advisory class from each grade level that won: 6th grade - Ms. Braus’ class, 7th grade - Ms. Montero’s class, and 8th grade - Ms. Zellner’s class. Pictures of some of the doors are included below.

Field Trip to PSU - Visit the Russian Program

On February 10 we plan to take a group of students to Portland State University to see the campus and learn more about the Russian language program. Many of our students who are currently in our Russian dual language program plan to go on this field trip. If other students are interested in this opportunity, please contact the office and let us know.

Sports - Winter and Spring

Girls Basketball and Wrestling are nearing their final competitions. Later this month Boys Basketball will begin. And then in the Spring, our students can participate in our Track and Field program. Athletics are a great opportunity for our students to enjoy time together, compete, work on improving their abilities, and come out to support each other!

Wearing Identification Badges

In all Woodburn secondary schools, it’s an expectation that our students and staff wear their Identification Badges. This allows all of us to quickly identify who our students and staff are, and it ensures safety for all. Using the ID Badges is also how our nutrition staff tracks student meals, which is how our district is reimbursed for providing free breakfast and lunch to all students. Please help your student remember to wear his/her ID Badge everyday.

WSD Parent – Student Handbook Link

The Woodburn School District has a Parent - Student Handbook that provides information on rules, policies, and expectations at all schools in the District. We provided these to everyone at parent conferences and also mailed them home to those who were unable to attend conferences. Additionally, here you can access a digital version of the handbook.
