Hawks Happenings Monthly Newsletter
June 2023 Edition
Principals Corner: Closing out the 2022-2023 school year!
The countdown to June 15th is officially underway at CPHS! As students build in anticipation for a summer reprieve, our teachers are ensuring we squeeze every last ounce of learning out of them in these last two weeks of school.
Please note that June 5th is a half-day early release as is our last day of school, June 15th.
In this edition of the Hawks Happenings newsletter, we focus on celebrations and acknowledgements, share information about our upcoming Graduation Commencement Ceremony, and provide information for families about upcoming programs and opportunities.
With summer around the corner, we also want to make sure you are all aware of our summer hours and some other important items coming up in August:
The High School Office will be open weekdays until June 27th, and then will re-open for the new school year on August 8th. Report cards will go out the week of June 19-23.
Registration is now open for the 23-24 School Year. To register go to cpps.org and click on the Skyward link in the top right corner. Students will not be permitted to attend class on the first day of school until the online registration is complete. Please call the office at 509-522-3312 or email Lori at lbartlow@cpps.org if you need help with your username and password.
Student Schedules will be available on August 11th for viewing in Skyward. Students will not be able to see their schedule that day until families have completed the online registration however. Students who wish to see their counselors to request a schedule change, should plan on coming to the school during the following dates and times:
Seniors Schedule Changes - August 15th (9AM - Noon)
Juniors / Sophomore Changes - August 16th (9AM - 2:00pm)
During Freshman Orientation , on August 17th, we will distribute to the 9th graders their schedules and they will have an opportunity to see their counselor for schedule issues or to request possible changes.
Students who are new to the District will have an opportunity to talk to their counselor for schedule issues on August 21st from 9 - Noon.
Also to note, we have officially ended our new to Running Start and SeaTech enrollments for the 2023-2024 school year. Students who have initiated the process are still in good standing for enrollment in Fall 2023, however no new student enrollments will be accepted over the summer.
Lastly, on Friday, June 2nd we will have an ASB Assembly (End of Year Assembly) and our CP Strong Grow IT Celebration on the same day. The schedule includes a 1-6 period bell schedule but classes will be reduced to 25 minutes on that date.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us at 509-522-3312.
Thank you, and Go Hawks!

Hawks Teacher Shout Out...Ms. Madison Elemenhurst!
Question: Why are did you decide to become a teacher?
Ms. Elemenhurst: “Two main reasons for why I chose this path. I always have loved learning. I love reading. I love that teaching encompasses all of these things that I love. I also had some really strong teachers growing up. And I wanted to do those things for other people.”
Question: What moment has inspired you this year?
Ms. Elmenhurst: “Working with a student on their social service project where the student was really invigorating. She explained how stressful putting this together was for her, and I got to say to her that this is good stress and she was able to reflect that feeling under this kind of pressure was good for her.”
Question: What would you hope your students and families know about you as a teacher?
Ms. Elmenhurst: “One of my biggest teaching philosophies and that I strive for as a teacher is that I’m also a learner. I don’t feel like I’ve done my job well, if I do not feel like I’ve grown as a teacher….Learning from my students, and learning about the world we live in.”
Graduation Commencement Information for the Class of 2023
College Place High School is excited to celebrate this year's senior class, the Class of 2023. Our Graduation commencement ceremony will be on Saturday, June 10 at 7:00pm, here at the College Place High School Stadium.
Families are encouraged to arrive early to accommodate the anticipated high volume of parking needs. We have partnered with Wal-Mart as an overflow parking area, and have asked our staff to park off-site as well. We are asking our graduates to arrive at 6:15pm that evening in preparation for the ceremony.
There will be no limitation to the number of guests each student can invite to Graduation. Our stadium facilities will also include ground level chair seating for the elderly or those who prefer this option.
We anticipate a wonderful summer evening sunset as the backdrop to this event, however, should the weather forecast look unfavorable, we will communicate with the graduates and their families if we need to move the ceremony indoors. Moving indoors is a last resort. We would rather be outdoors in light rain.
The ceremony will also be livestreamed on our NFHS platform. Here is the link, which we will also post on our social media platforms and school website. https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/schools/college-place-high-school-college-place-wa
We ask that guests refrain from bringing noisemakers to our event, as we want to ensure each graduates name is heard when they cross the stage.

McMorris Rodgers Celebrates 6 Students Appointed to Service Academies at Annual Reception
Spokane, Wash. – Eastern Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05) hosted her annual Service Academy Reception last week to celebrate the appointment of 6 high school students she nominated to attend one of the nation’s prestigious service academies.
“One of the best parts of my job is having the opportunity to nominate a select few of the best and brightest young people to represent Eastern Washington at our nation’s military academies,” said Rodgers. “This year, six of these incredible nominees received appointments, charting them on a course to be the future leaders of our Armed Forces. I am so proud of each one of them for achieving this goal, and I continue to be inspired by their decision to put service before self. Congratulations, and may God bless them as they begin this next chapter!”
