The Great Dragon Reading Quest Begins
Students in grades 1-5 will be given a QUEST bingo board to complete throughout the year. The students will earn various prizes by completing the reading tasks on the squares and making a horizontal, vertical or diagonal BINGO. When the student completes every square on the QUEST board, they will have made a QUEST BLACKOUT and will earn a ticket to go to the end of the year Library pizza party.
Kindergarten students will have a separate reading program which will allow them to read books and earn library sponsored spirit sticks. More information about this program will be sent home to Kindergarten parents.
This program will give the students the opportunity to broaden their awareness of the various sections of the KDE Library as well as the different types of literature in each area. Favorite books and authors will also be emphasized. A variety of tags may be earned. How many tags will your Davidson Dragon accumulate this year?

Looking Ahead......
Four Early Release Days Extended to Full Days of School
The 2017-2018 instructional calendar included six "early release" days that are typically designated for professional development, teacher preparation, and parent conferences. Four of the previously designated early release days (Oct. 9, 20, Feb 16, April 13) will be extended to full instructional days. This is designed to allow students more time in the classroom, as well as to serve the needs of so many of our families who are displaced by Harvey and depending, now more than ever, on the daily routine of school to bring a sense of normalcy to their child(ren)'s lives. We understand that October 9 and 20 had been set aside for parent/teacher conferences at many campuses. However, in lieu of the in-person conferences, parents are encouraged to communicate with teachers by email and/or phone. Parents should also continue to monitor their student's progress on the Home Access Center. Friday, December 15 and Thursday, May 24 will remain "early release" days since final exams are given on those dates.
Other Upcoming Dates to Remember:

Raptor badges are not required for parents coming to only watch the parade because parents will be watching from the front of the school. Parents will be able to view all classes as the students parade in their book character costumes through the circle drive. We will begin the parade at 8:40. We are looking forward to an exciting day!
