Eric's Acts of Kindness
We currently have a 9th grade student, Eric, that has been battling cancer for several years, at this time the family has exhausted all available treatment options. When asked what people can do, Eric has but one inspirational request. Continuing with his vision to make the world a better place, Eric asks that people do an act of service in his name and share it with him. Ms. Burns (cburns@harmonytx.org) from HSA has agreed to serve as a liaison for the family for this movement that we are calling "Eric’s Acts of Kindness." If you perform an act of kindness, please make sure to share a quick note, a picture, or email so that Eric can follow this movement!

The peak of the cold and flu season is upon us. To prevent widespread flu in the school, we recommend that your child stay home from school if experiencing flu or cold symptoms. To decide whether or not to send your child to school, please consider the following guidelines:
· Fever (greater than 100 degrees, your child may return to school only after his or her temperature has been consistently below 100 degrees, by mouth, for a minimum of 24 hours)
· Vomiting (even once)
· Diarrhea
· Chills
· General malaise or feelings of fatigue, discomfort, weakness or muscle aches
· Frequent congested (wet) or croupy cough
· Lots of nasal congestion with frequent blowing of nose
The following are good hygiene habits to teach the students to prevent the spread of the flu:
· Wash hands frequently
· Do not touch eyes, nose or mouth
· Cover mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing, use a paper tissue, throw it away and then wash hands
· Avoid close contact with people who are sick
Colds are the most contagious during the first 48 hours. A child who has a fever should remain at home until "fever free" for a minimum of 24 hours. Keeping a sick child at home will minimize the spread of infections and viruses in the classroom.
Thank you in advance for helping make this year at school as healthy as possible. Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Nutritious meals are available daily for a price of$1.70 for breakfast, $3.00 for lunch, and $0.50 for a la carte milk. Each student is provided a lunch account on to which money may be deposited. Households are also encouraged to log in to their child’s account (using the parent password), go to the “Lunch” tab, and click on ONLINE LUNCH APPLICATION to apply for free or reduced price meals. If you need the parent password reset, please call the school and ask to speak with the Lunch Clerk.
Should a student’s meal account balance fall below $0, he /she will be allowed to charge up to –$15.00. Once the negative meal account balance limit is reached, the student will receive an alternate meal. Alternate meals consist of cereal, fruit, and milk for breakfast; and for lunch, a sandwich, vegetable, and milk. If a student is later approved for free meals, they will begin receiving meals immediately. However, the household is still responsible for paying the negative account balance. Teacher in the Spotlight: Mrs.Hesley!!
How long have you been an English teacher? I taught college English at UNT for a couple of semesters and this is my first year teaching 10th grade at Harmony. First time ever teaching a high school class.

Torn between the adult thing and the not the adult thing. I would make sure that my kids have enough money for college and all of that and make sure they’re okay. With the remainder of that money, I would use it to travel the world, since there’s so much I haven’t seen.
