Spring Spirit Wear Sale

This is the LAST DAY for the Spring Spirit Wear sale! Check out our online store and place your order! The sale cannot be extended, so please get your orders in today, April 6th!

This spring, several new items are being offered including a variety of short-sleeve shirts, a personalized baseball jersey, 3/4 sleeve baseball shirt, hoodie, and a baseball cap.

Home and School Meeting

Please join us for our April Home and School meeting, this Monday, April 9th at 7:00PM in the school library! We hope to see you there!

Earth Day

Vernfield Home and School will be holding its annual Earth Day celebration on Friday, April 20, 2018. The students will rotate through various activities including aquatic ecology, nature trail, school garden, crafts, etc., throughout the day. In order for this day to be a success, we need A LOT of volunteers.

If you are able to help with any of the stations either in the morning, afternoon, or both, please fill out the flyer (online here) and return it to your child's teacher as soon as possible.

**If you are able to volunteer for Earth Day, please mark your calendars for a volunteer meeting at Vernfield on Sunday, April 15 at 7 PM.**

Race for Education

Whose kids want to see Mr. Graf get slimed? The Race for Education kick-off letter will be sent home next week with information on how to start fundraising. If we reach our fundraising goal Mr. Graf will get slimed and many other teachers will participate in special games. Please see the kick-off letter being sent home on Tuesday, April 10th for further details. We appreciate your fundraising efforts!

Author Visit - Michael Patrick O'Neill

Award-winning photographer and author, Michael Patrick O'Neill will be visiting Vernfield on May 17! He has written and photographed seven non-fiction marine life books designed to encourage school children to read, write and become involved in science and conservation. They have received outstanding reviews from School Library Journal and are distributed nationally in the educational system. To learn more about his books, please visit Batfish Books.

All seven of his books, which are available for purchase (signed and personalized), will be on display in the library to view ahead of time. Order forms, which came home in communicators on Tuesday 4/3, are due with payment on Friday, April 20.

First in Math Update from Mrs. Kling

3,057,216 math problems solved using First in Math in addition to all of the work the children do in Everyday Math! Wow!!!!

The top K-2 team for the week is Mrs. DiPietro’s second grade with +989 stickers and the top 3-5 team is Mrs. Donovan’s fifth grade class with +8,153 stickers.

The top K-2 player for the week is Andrew in Mrs. DiPietro’s second grade with + 390 and the top 3-5 player is Elizabeth from Mrs. Donovan’s fifth grade class with + 1,021 stickers.

Vernfield has moved up to 52nd in the nation, 21st in the entire state of PA and is currently 3rd in the school district.

DVD Literacy

Thank you to the DVD Literacy Committee and the parent volunteers for all of their hard work getting all of the students taped this year! We also appreciate the behind the scenes work of saving and organizing all of the recordings and putting together the final DVDs for fifth graders.

The committee is also looking for a new co-chair for next year to help with more of the paperwork and organization part of this committee. If you are interested and able to help, please contact Amy Thompson or Meg Dick

**Race for Education (Spring 2018)

**Yearbook (Spring 2018 and future)

The Yearbook Committee is looking for help with the Spring 2018 Yearbook as well as someone to begin learning how to put together the yearbook when the current staff 'graduates'. The students love receiving a yearbook, and it is a great way to preserve memories from year to year. If you are interested, please contact Sandra Esposito at

**Pod Parents (Summer 2018)

Our Pod Parent committee needs a new chair for the 2018-2019 school year. Pod parents are volunteers that help teachers with many 'start up' tasks during the first week of school, which include copying, cutting, labeling, sorting, etc. The main role of the chair of this committee is create a Sign-up genius to send to interested parents. **DVD Literacy Co-Chair (Fall 2018)
