Introduction
Challenged Athletes Foundation provides people with physical challenges pursuit active lifestyle by exercising and doing sports. “For 21 years, CAF has touched thousands of lives in part by sharing the stories of our history, life changing events and inspirational journeys of the challenged athletes we support,” Says the organization.
Mission Statement
¨It is the mission of the Challenged Athletes Foundation to provide opportunities and support to people with physical challenges so they can pursue active lifestyles through physical fitness and competitive athletics. The Challenged Athletes Foundation believes that involvement in sports at any level increases self-esteem, encourages independence and enhances quality of life¨. Says CAF.
What is the issue/cause that your charity supports?
Challenged Athletes Foundation started by one inspiration. Jim MacLaren was that inspiration in 1992. He was born in April 13, 1963 and passed away in August 31, 2010. MacLaren participated in the Ironman triathlon as an amputee. He finished in the top 20% in 1992.
CAF was officially established as a 501c3 nonprofit organization in 1997. This is when the organization started building up to what it is now. CAF launches three new programs to support its mission in 2004. More than 656 athletes receive access for athlete’s grants in 2008 totaling more than one million.
How did the orginization begin and grow into what is now
This organization helps people with disabilities to play a sport and not have trouble with it. People who have disabilities develop effective conditioning or training plans and modify physical activities to meet their fitness goal.
How effective is this charity in accomplishing its goal?
The Challenged Athlete Foundation is super effective in accomplishing its goal in many ways. This charity reputation is really big because the community thinks that putting a children in this foundation will provide kids with opportunities to play sports and to be fit. This charity funded is money by buying contributions ,gifts, and grand and total they used for all of that was $5,854,426.
Challenged Athletes Foundation uses its money in many things like 85.3% of the money goes to the program and 15.3% goes to the fundraiser and 2.4% goes to the administrator. This charity is make a huge difference because since 1994 more than $67 million has been raised. Also, they broke records like “ 200 challenged athletes took part in the SDTC experience, making it the most successful SDTC to date and helping CAF reach a new fundraising milestone of $5 million in one year.”
What does your chosen charity do for the community?
The Challenged Athlete Foundation does a lot of things to the community that are amazing. Their mission is to provide kids with physical challenges opportunities to play sports and to be healthy by exercising. This charity helps people who has physical challenges have an opportunity to play the sport they like.
The foundation is located at 9591 Waples street, San Diego, Ca 92121. They do fundraising event like a Bay Area cycle challenge is one of them. There's a event called run for a reason which is to run for an important cause. And finally a challenged athlete camp were it's a camp full of activities for the people. And finally, the volunteer opportunity that charity provides is you have to go to the website and got to the link that says volunteer and their you would see what time of season they need volunteers.
