The Scoop of Math Class
Do you want to know the behind scenes in 4th grade math class? Fine we will tell you. Ok, here is the behind the scenes of 4th grade math class. Our 4th grade math teacher is Mrs.Sisk. The first thing we did was take a benchmark test so Mrs.Sisk knew our starting levels. The first thing we learned about was rounding and the rounding rules. The first rule is that you underline the digit to be rounded. The second rule was that 0,1,2,3,4 behind the digit means ‘’stay’’ the same. Then the last rule is 5,6,7,8,9, behind the digit means ‘’go up’’ and that the rest of the numbers become zero. The second thing we learned was fact families. Fact families are when three numbers make when multiply the two smallest numbers and you get the other number of the three that you used and that would be the highest number or if you divide you would still use those three numbers and use the biggest number first . The third thing we learned about was multiples. Multiples are where they give you a number and you times it by the other number they give you and you multiply the last number they give you and you times the first number they give you. The fourth thing we learned about was factors. Factors are when they give you a number and you multiply it until you repeat it and then you are done. The last thing we learned was property of multiplication and there are different properties for multiplication problems.Every Friday we do a multiplication fluency test. That's what we do in math class.

Feel Like You’re In the Environmental Club
If you didn’t get in Environmental Club, don’t worry, we will fill you in so far. We said hello then Mrs. Spears, our sponsor, said what we are going to do. We meet every Wednesday after school until 5:00. There are 25 students in the club and YOU! The next day we voted for the animal we will try to help save from extinction. We looked at tons of animals but there was a tie between the Hawksbill Sea Turtle and the Red Panda. The next Wednesday we voted again. The winner was the Hawksbill Sea Turtle. We celebrated it but people that voted for the red panda started arguing, but Mrs. Spears settled it. Then we went outside to pick up trash. The next Wednesday we looked for facts for our poster with our groups. So far we found all the fact in our groups and next time we will will make posters. You can help save the Hawksbill Sea Turtle too!
Here is a fun activity for you and your friends:
(We made these in Environmental Club)
Step 1 Find pine cones in your backyard
Step 2 Then get a yarn ball and tie it to your pine cone
Step 3 Spread peanut butter on the pine cone
Step 4 Roll the pine cone in bird seeds
Step 5 Hang it from a tree for the squirrels and birds to enjoy

Physical Fun
Hi! This is what we do in P.E! We’ve been doing a lot fun in P.E since the start of the year! We have been playing emoji tag. And Rafael, Dominick, and more people have shot half court. Some days we play clean your room, which is really really fun! Also Mrs. Stearns class got 7 trojan tickets from making shots from playing clean your room! We play knock-out on free days, which is fun because David T. and his friends usually win or are the last man standing! Some of us also like throwing and catching balls. We also, like always, love doing the exercises! Some of us really like taking the pacer test because it is fun and most people in our class meet their goal! We also go outside and run laps! Lastly, most of us like catching the rock ball, because it is fun! If you were wondering who does all this awesome stuff, it is our teacher Mrs. Misner. We have P.E 3 times a week, most of the time we have it inside the gym. We do this for physical education, and it is very fun! Come back next time to read more about P.E.

Cultural Heritage
Have you ever wondered about your cultural heritage? Well, a few weeks ago our class presented our cultural heritage project. Each of us went through and took turns sharing our cultural heritage. Everyone had a different cultural heritage. For example, David C’s culture heritage is from Ireland and Germany. David’s heritage foods are turkey and pizza. Another example cultural heritage food is Connor’s culture, which is Italian. Connor's foods from his early family members are olives. Levi’s early ancestors came from Chicago and Mexico. Levi’s food that comes from his early members are milk and cookies. Avery’s culture is from Germany, Montana, and Illinois. Avery’s cultural heritage food is bratwurst, stew, and chicken and dumplings. Everyone's cultural heritage is not the the same, that’s why we're special in our own ways, none of us really share the the same culture.

Special Events
This year we have had and are going to have a lot of fun events! Our class and the teachers had a ice cream party because we had five compliments from the other classroom teachers. We are going to have a fall carnival, and the PTO is running it. The carnival is next week. There will be a lot of games and a dunk tank with teachers in it. There will also be pizza to eat and desserts to buy. It will be lots of fun. Jeff the Juggler is doing a live performance in the Ludwick gym next week also. It is for our 1st quarter school celebration. We had a Trojan Trot event 2 weeks ago. Our class went outside to the walking path and when we got there it started to rain hard. We got to walk in the rain for a little while then we went into the pavilion. When we came back inside we got to eat popsicles. It was fun too!

Schools Around the World
There are similarities and differences in schools overseas and Unity Point. There are some things that are the same at Unity Point and in schools in Pakistan, China, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia. In all these schools students use pencils. In all these schools students wear shoes. All students wear backpacks. All schools use books. There are differences in these schools. Unity Point 4th grade students have 2 recesses but in many other schools only one recess. However, in China students get five recesses! Unity Point uses yellow school busses. Egypt, Pakistan and China do not use school busses, but Saudi Arabia has blue and white ones. Unity Point averages 20-30 students in a class. Pakistan has 11 per class, Saudi Arabia 23, Egypt 41 and China 50 students. In Unity Point all students learn English. But in Saudi Arabia and Egypt they learn Arabic, in Pakistan they learn Urdu and in China they learn Chinese. There are some similarities but many differences in these schools.

Super Science
Today in science was awesome! In science we are learning about producers, consumers, decomposers, and ecosystems. We also are learning about the food chain and food webs. We got to talk about dinosaurs, and how they relate to the other animals in the food chain. T-Rex’s are the top carnivores, Raptors are secondary consumers, and Long Necks are also consumers, because they eat plants. A few weeks ago, we went on a trip to the pond, and we collected microorganism. Then, we got to look in the microscope to look at bacteria and protists. Our teacher, Mrs. Spears, used to teach us science. But, Mrs. W took over the class a few weeks ago. We really think science class is awesome. Come back next time to read about what we do in our super science class!
