Mr. Goetz's Corner
Dear Families of Deerfield,
Thank you to the families that were able to make it out to Curriculum Night last night. It was great to see so many parents here to find out what their child is going to learn and how they can help them be successful. We appreciate the partnership we share to provide the best education for your child. If you were unable to make it, I encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher to introduce yourself.
Today was an exciting day at Deerfield! We launched The Positivity Project with the students during a morning assembly and then transitioned to our first Deerfield Huddle of the year. The Positivity Project is an outstanding new program where we are empowering students to build strong relationships. Research has shown that one characteristic of adults that live a healthy and fulfilled life is that they have developed positive relationships with others. The Positivity Project accomplishes this through teaching students 24 character strengths. Students are encouraged to recognize the character strengths in themselves and in others. In doing so, students are able to build confidence in who they are and see value in others. Each week we will be focusing on a character strength with the students. We will share the character strength with parents in our weekly newsletter. Please have conversations with your child about each character strength and share with them how you use that strength. To learn more about the positivity project, check out the attached flyers. We will also be having a Parent Information Meeting about The Positivity Project on the evening of October 10. Be sure to save the date on your calendar!
We will be introducing each character strength during our Deerfield Huddles each Friday. Our Huddles are a time where students a placed in a small group of 11-13 students with a Deerfield staff member. The students are in mixed grade level groups with our Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grade friends together and our 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade friends together. During the Huddle, the students will watch a video about the character strength of the week and participate in a discussion about that strength. Then throughout the next week, teachers will continue to discuss the strength in the classroom and integrate it into the curriculum. We are excited to continue with our Deerfield Huddles that we began last year. Be sure to ask your child about their Huddle experience today.

Student Absences
If your child will be absent, please call the Deerfield Attendance Line at (248) 537-6710. The line is available 24 hours a day/7 days a week. If your child is absent due to a medical appointment or illness, a doctor's note helps to excuse your child's absence.
Arriving to school on time and here every day is very important to your child's routine and to their learning!
