SLPHS Families,
The second week of February feels more like March. I would be okay if that trend continued. There’s warmth in our building, too. I appreciate the climate of collaboration and engagement throughout the building. Students and staff moved into and through our three weeks of required face masks with no loss of engagement and connection. I love our student body and the culture of collectivity and support that exists in our building.
This week, we hosted the Northwest Suburban Conference (NWSC) Music Festival. It was an amazing experience for music students from each of the 14 member schools. Students received training and feedback from highly acclaimed guest clinicians. Last night’s finale concert, held at Bethel, was simply incredible, an amazing celebration of music and our students. I was honored to be there and appreciate that our community supported a day of distance learning to make it all possible!
This evening, we host the next wave of performers, athletes, and scholars as 8th grade students and their families join us for high school kickoff and 2022-23 course registration and information night. We look forward to supporting them through this transition to high school. I share special thanks to our Panther Mentors. They work with the incoming 9th grade students starting tonight through their freshman year. They provide excellent examples of our school and community values as students transition into high school. If you are a parent of a Panther Mentor, thank you for sending us such an incredible community builder!
Here are a couple of other reminders and updates:
- Panther Pride Time: We have Panther Pride Time each day this week to support our students in grades 9-11 in registering for next year. The school day begins with Period 1 at 8:10 a.m. all week.
- Face masks – district update: Last evening, the school board approved changes to the Face Mask Decision Making Guide that will be in place after February 25 through the end of the school year. If you missed it, see the update that went out earlier today. These changes really don’t impact our high school as the changes align preK-6 to what is already in place at grades 7-12.
On this Wednesday in February, I am still floating on a cloud after last night’s concert. I am deeply appreciative of the gifts, talent, and compassion represented in our student body and staff. Spring Lake Park High School is a great place to work and learn collaboratively, with so many stakeholders committed to the holistic development of our school community.
One school, one community #SLPPantherProud!
