Question of the Week
Thank you to everyone who responded to the question about their favorite Beatles song. Favorite songs include Let it Be, Helter Skelter, and I am the Walrus. Additional responses:
Eleanor Rigby!!! I listen to Folk Music a lot! I really enjoy when music tells a story.
All You Need is Love. The title says it all :)
Yellow Submarine, I remember watching the video in 6th grade choir! Mind blowing :)
Blackbird. It's just a beautiful song that my whole family loves and that has a great theme of persevering despite obstacles.
Revolution...it is our team's namesake.
Can't Buy Me Love. Because I love that movie called "Can't Buy Me Love" -- those cute little high school love stories from the 90's were always my favorite.
And the winner is Lise Choate! Thank you to everyone who participated.
College & Career and Seminar
We are fortunate this year to be able to expand our Seminar classes. This year, we have 7th Grade Seminar, focusing on the transition to junior high and students' social-emotional well-being. Our 8th Grade Seminar is focusing on healthy relationships, as well as goal setting and college and career readiness. Mrs. Day teamed up with Mr. Day to show students one of the many opportunities in the computer science field. It was so much fun watching him present, and use engaging teaching strategies while he did it! Thank you Mr. (and Mrs.) Day!
Collaborative PD Group
Now that we are five weeks in, the Collaborative PD group would like some feedback from the resource teams, especially those who are new to collaborating with a resource teacher. We would love to hear positive feedback, in addition to any questions or concerns that you have. This will help us to provide meaningful and poignant information to both our PD group and to the staff as a whole. Thank you for taking the time!

Weekly Wellness
Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is a motivational theory in psychology that describes human needs and eventually achieving self-actualization. Until the basic, lower-level needs are met, those higher in the pyramid cannot be accessed. Many argue that although physiological (food, water, rest) and safety (security, shelter, etc.) needs are critical, the need for social connection and belonging is just as important. Research on the topic of resilience indicates that people cannot thrive unless they are surrounded by healthy relationships.
A wide network helps us feel connected, whereas a lack of social support can engender feelings of social alienation, as well as depression, anxiety, and burnout. Ironically, in spite of the fact that teachers spend their days with dozens or hundreds of other people, teaching is one of the most isolating professions- the company you need is that of peers. -Elena Aguilar
As we start some of the Seco Social activities, try to find a few that are interesting and join in! Continue looking at the list of ways to build community at school and try a few more this week. As you do so, think about how it would look and sound at Seco if we had the kind of community you want? How would it feel? How would you be different?
