Important Announcements
District Calendar Updates
From the CBSD Website:
The winter weather caused us to miss eight school days, so far. We know that each instructional day is important, and we are committed to providing 184 days of school. To-date, the following calendar changes have been made to account for two snow days:
- April 21, a potential snow make-up day, was made a regular school day.
- The end of the school year was moved from June 12th to June 13th (subject to change).
NEW:
A draft calendar was presented to the School Board on Febuary 25th as a discussion item, with proposed additional make-up days highlighted. This draft makes the following adjustments to account for the remaining six snow days:
- April 17 becomes a regular school day (parent/teacher conferences will be scheduled before or after school).
- Monday, June 16 – Thursday, June 19 will be regular school days.
- Friday, June 20: early dismissal; AM Kindergarten will attend; Graduation occurs on the last day of school.
Final decision on the calendar will be made some time in March.

There is a $22 fee per child to help defray the cost of t-shirts, registration, water bottles and snacks. A discount will apply to families with multiple runners at checkout when you register.
Registration is online at www.tcteams.com/irun4lifebes through March 13th. Once complete:
- Please print your registration confirmation
- Seal it in an envelope along with the registration fee (cash or check made out to “Buckingham Elementary PTO”)
- Have your child hand in the envelope to his/her homeroom teacher by Friday, March 14th.
- NO LATE REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
We are also looking for parent volunteers to help! Help with handing out snacks, team management, running course safety, and running with the teams. You do not need to be a runner to be a volunteer! Volunteer options are detailed during registration. Each year the program has grown in size. With over 150 runners across all grades, we need your help to continue to make this as fun and rewarding as we can for the kids!

Buckingham Musical - The Ever After - April 3 & 4!
Is Ever After really as happy as everyone expected? In a hilarious parody of daytime TV, hosts Monty and Sally wonder if time truly heals all wounds. They invite Cinderella and her middle-aged 'beauty-impaired' stepsisters to reconcile with each other after being estranged for 20 years. What about Snow White and the Evil Queen? This hysterical fractured fairy tale has it all: a trash-talking clairvoyant mirror, an unfortunate prince who is turning slowly back into a frog and even Jiminy Cricket — now an occupational therapist and author of the book “My Life as Your Conscience”. The musical is punctuated by questions from obnoxious studio audience members and ridiculously funny infomercials for fairy tale related products.
The Ever After is Buckingham’s 2014 Spring Musical. Our talented cast and chorus of 5th & 6th grade students have been working hard after school to present a wonderful evening of music and comedy on April 3rd and 4th.
Ticket order forms have gone out to the families of the cast for those evening performances. We will also present a special performance during school for the entire building during the day. If you would like tickets to either performance, please stop by the office and pick up an order form – we expect a full house at both shows!
We hope you can join us for a great evening on April 3rd and 4th!

Jump Rope for Heart
This year’s Jump Rope For Heart (JRFH) took place during Physical Education classes the last week of February. On behalf of the American Heart Association, Buckingham would like to “Thank You” for a successful fundraiser! Buckingham has participated in JRFH for 9 years and collectively donated over $25,000 to the American Heart Association!
Donations are due for this year’s event by March 7th, but we currently have raised close to $1000 as a school.
Thank you again and remember to discuss with your children the importance of exercising the most important muscle in your body, your heart!
-Mr. Durie
Local Children's Book Author - Adam Lehrhaupt - Comes to Buckingham
On Friday, February 28th, Kindergarten thru 4th grade met Adam Lehrhaupt, a local book author who wrote: Warning! Do Not Open This Book. It is Mr. Lehrhaupt’s first time ever visiting a school - where he spoke about the writing process and where he gets his inspiration to write. He mentioned that our Mighty Knight students were a wonderful audience and he can only hope future school visits are just as fun. The students loved listening to the story in library - so much so - over 80 books were ordered and signed by Mr. Lehrhaupt for our school!
Please take a look at our library website for a photo gallery. Our next visiting author will be Eric Kimmel on Friday, May 2nd.
