Rio Vista COVID-19 Update
Dear Families,
I shared on Class Dojo last week, we have had a wonderful start to the school year! 👏We have the BEST students, families, and staff at RVES! 🙌We are proud of all of the work and learning our students are doing and how hard everyone is working to follow all of the COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines. It's tough to wear a mask all day long, but our Rangers are doing it!
If you have been checking the PSUSD COVID-19 dashboard, you will see that we have had relatively low numbers of cases where students or staff are testing positive. Some students have shared with families that they have noticed that students in their class are absent from school or that they have been asked to stay home due to potential exposure and this has caused concern. Just because a student is not present at school, does not mean that they have COVID-19 or will get it. In fact, we are finding that a majority of students that are being excluded due to potential exposure are not developing symptoms after their 10 day exclusion period. It's important that we work with our Rangers in helping them understand that just because one of their friends or classmates is out, it does not mean that they are sick, going to get sick, or have COVID-19. Its also important for our parents to know, that you will be contacted directly by our school if your child was directly exposed to someone with COVID-19. Please make sure you are connected on Class Dojo with your child's teacher as we are informing parents through Dojo when we are not able to make phone calls, on weekends, after hours, etc... because it is critical that students do not show up the next school day if they have been exposed.
We also want to remind all of you that it is important that you keep your child at home if they have symptoms or are ill. This is the most critical thing we can do to prevent any illness from spreading at school in any year, not just this year.
Other important info for you to know...
- We have free testing available at school for students and family members in that household. Please make an appointment by calling our office if you need testing for your family or your student. Results are provided within 15 minutes. We are using BinaxNow test kits that are also available for sale at Walmart.
- Students have assigned seating at lunch and in class so that we can better contact trace who they are near if one of our students tests positive. In order to be considered directly exposed, you need to be within 6ft of a confirmed case for greater than 15 cumulative minutes over a 24 hour period.
- We are asking students to sit outdoors but are always allowing students that are too hot or uncomfortable to eat indoors. On super hot days, we will have students sit indoors, but will allow students that would like to eat outside to do so.
- It is still optional for students and staff to wear masks outdoors.
If you have any specific questions or thoughts, please feel free to text, call, or message me on Class Dojo.
Sincerely,
Mr. T, Principal
