From the Principal's (Miss Ava Claire Werne) Desk:
Principal for a Day
"I would to thank my parents for making me Principal for a day! I have had a very good time checking on all the students and reading to classes. I didn't know that it would be so much work! (see my picture!) One last thank you to Mrs. Sternberg for making this a lot easier - I would not be able to do this on my own!" - Miss Werne
Spring is coming! :)

Thank you for your support this week while we were testing!
Read Across America
It was so exciting to see the West and Central Campus kids dressed up as their favorite book character yesterday! We even had a special visit from Clifford, who must have slipped by our principal, Miss Viola Swamp! The cafeteria staff are receiving some special attention, as they dressed up as characters from the Lunch Lady books, tweeted a picture and the Author of the books even commented back!
Students and staff at East Campus are celebrating tomorrow, March 4th; Can't wait to see what characters we have at school!

Ronald McDonald House Charities
The senior class from Jasper High School is sponsoring a community-wide drive to support the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Ohio Valley. In this effort, Holy Trinity Catholic School is showing support by offering a drop off box for families at all of our campuses. In today's Purple Folders you will find a flyer that has four different "Shopping Carts" of wish list items. Holy Trinity is being asked to focus on the "Toiletries" wish list, though items from other lists are most certainly welcomed and appreciated.
The items we are focusing on are as follows:
-tooth brushes -shampoo/conditioner
-tooth paste -body wash
-mouthwash -body poufs
-deodorant -hair brushes/combs
If you would like to participate in donating to this wonderful cause, please send the items with your child(ren) to school by no later than Friday, March 11th. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Lemen via e-mail at: tlemen@evdio.org.

Cafeteria News - Offer vs. Serve:
Offer vs. Serve:
Following up on last week’s newsletter, the cafeteria would like to start the implementation of Offer vs. Serve (OVS) immediately after Spring Break. The first step at both campuses will be to start with milk. If students wish to decline a milk, they can. If they choose to take a water bottle instead, however, they will be charged for it ($.40). The only exception to the water charge will be for students who have already had arrangements in place to substitute water for a milk allergy. Shortly after Spring Break, OVS will be rolled out to include other items on the lunch tray. In preparing for that time, a handout is being sent home to all parents that will help provide guidance as to what the student choices are. This handout will also be reviewed with teachers and students. Please keep an eye out for it!
Note that the price of the school lunch will remain the same regardless of whether or not a student takes 3 components, 4 components, or 5 components. The lunch price for next school year has not yet been determined.
Allergies:
According to governmental regulations (USDA), water is no longer an acceptable substitute for milk because it does not offer the same nutritional value. A variety of soy milk products are acceptable substitutes, but the cafeteria does not carry them in stock. Therefore, under the Offer vs. Serve program, students with a milk intolerance/allergy will be able to decline the milk. Beginning next school year, the cafeteria will be charging all students for water bottles. There will be no exceptions for milk intolerance/allergy. Please know that water fountains are readily available in each cafeteria, and each student is allowed to get a drink from them anytime during the lunch period.
Offer vs. Serve will also provide options for students who have allergies to foods other than milk. Students will be able to decline any component to which there is an allergy without the cafeteria having to charge a different price.
Just a friendly reminder that we need parents or adult guests to call ahead if you are wanting to eat a school lunch. This helps us to plan accordingly! Thank you for your help.
