A Message from Principal Nixon--July 13, 2021
I hope summer break is off to a great start and that you have had the opportunity to rest and unwind! Please take a few minutes to read through the information below.
In the coming weeks, I will send out an official welcome message that will contain specific information about class lists, Kindergarten Staggered Entry, Meet the Teacher, and other important beginning-of-year information. Until then, please let me know if you have any questions.
Respectfully,
Joe Nixon, Principal
Important Information
Northwoods is Hiring!
Our long-time data manager, Marilee Davies, retired at the end of June. Ms. Hartzell, our receptionist for the last several years, has taken over the Data Manager role, so we currently have a vacancy for a school receptionist. If you are interested in that position, please submit an application via AppliTrack and let me know.
Transportation for 21-22 School Year:
Transportation requests are now open for students who have enrolled for the 2021-22 school year and who wish to use bus service on a regular basis. You can find the 2021-2022 request form here: English & EspaƱol. You will need your child's student ID to complete this form.
The 2021-22 cut-off date for eligible families to request service (neighborhood or express service, as determined by student's school assignment) to ensure service on the first day of school is: July 19, 2021.
*Service is not guaranteed for the beginning of the school year to families who request transportation services after the cut-off date. Requests received after the cut-off date will be processed in the order received. Transportation will make every effort to provide service using existing bus stops as quickly as possible.
Breakfast & Lunch for 21-22:
Breakfast and lunch will be available at no cost to students for the 2021-22 school year. While the district may be able to offer free meals to all students, it is very important for eligible parents to complete a meal benefits application because this data enables schools to obtain funding to provide other important educational resources to benefit students. Other benefits that are issued directly to families that have applied and are eligible for meal benefits may also be available (such as the P-EBT cash benefit). Beginning July 1, 2021 parents can complete a meal benefits application online at myschoolapps.com. Paper applications will also be available at all schools. More: www.wcpss.net/free-reduced-meals.
21-22 Before/After-School Care Options:
Before and after-school care will be available for students onsite at Northwoods for the 21-22 school year. The before-school program will be managed by Northwoods staff as it has been in the past. However, the after-school care program will be managed onsite by the Taylor Family YMCA.
Before-School Care Applications:
Applications will be available during our Meet the Teacher event in August. Details about our Meet the Teacher event will be shared in the coming weeks.
After School Care Registration:
Families in need of after-school care services may register on the Taylor Family Website. Registration is currently open.
Student Supply Lists:
Student supply lists for the 2021-2022 school year have been posted on our website. They are also attached to the bottom of this newsletter for your convenience.
