Seawell Elementary School Updates!

Greetings Seawell Seahawk Families,

And now we are here.....new principal, various changes related to COVID19 protocols like masking, ALA students returning, eating outside, eating inside:), cautiously planning and navigating "in-person" events in order to embrace all of the changes that this new normal has brought us. We have come to the end of a successful school year. As I begin reviewing data like fourth and fifth grade Panorama survey results related to how students feel about their school, teachers and social emotional culture I am encouraged by the positivity, but not unaware of the work that is still to be done. End of grade tests, with the exception of third grade RTAA and make-ups, are completed and our teachers have worked hard and it is evidenced by the growth of our students. Despite the many variables encountered on so many levels we have come together - sometimes with AC and sometimes not- in order to do what is best for our students. This year has been different, but we have proven that we can work with different and still be successful! Because we are Seawell Strong!

Just a reminder about safety protocols from last week - note that you will be asked to come to the office if you don't have either a sticker or a badge. In addition, you will also note that our COVID cases have risen sharply this week as well.

As our school year is coming to a close, I want to take the time to assure parents about our safety protocols and commitment to keeping everyone on our campus safe. In the next few days, I am sure that we will have excited visitors planning to help us close out a strong year! In light of recent happenings in our nation and health precautions, note that safety continues to be of the utmost importance. I appreciate your patience and want to remind you that our safety guidelines include the following:

  • All adults must report to the front office to sign in and receive either a badge or sticker
  • Please exit the premises as soon as possible so that we can manage people traffic and secure our buildings for all students/staff
  • Please be sure to remain with your child's ceremony/celebration - this is not the time to "visit" other areas/classrooms

Summer Youth Enrichment Program: The CHCCS Community Schools Department will offer a variety of courses through its 2022 Summer Youth Enrichment Program (SYE).

SYE features courses in areas including arts/crafts, cooking/sewing, science/technology, sports/fitness, writing, music and theatre. Courses are offered to students in grades 1-12. For more information and registration instructions please visit the Community Schools webpage at 2022 Summer Youth Enrichment.

NEWS FROM THE PTA

Important Dates

Friday, June 10 - last day to submit '21-'22 reimbursement requests to the PTA

July 1 - deadline to order school supply kits (more info below)

Yearbook

Seawell yearbooks have arrived, and, for students who had already ordered yearbooks, they were sent home in backpacks on Friday. If you missed buying a yearbook earlier, we do have a limited quantity of yearbooks available for sale via the Seawell PTA memberhub: https://seawell.memberhub.com/store/items/714926. If you have not yet purchased a yearbook, you may purchase one using the link above, until June 8 or until supplies run out.

Order Back-to-School Supplies

The Seawell teachers have created their supply lists for 2022-2023, and you can order a kit of what your child needs with the click of a button. The kit will be delivered directly to Seawell before school starts in August. And $10 from every kit will come back to the PTA to benefit our teachers and students.

PTA Leaders Needed

One of the best ways to make your child's school stronger is to volunteer with the PTA! The PTA is responsible for the Seawell Garden, FORT Global Traditions Night, Critter Corner, Read-a-thon, Book Fair, Science Fun Day, Yearbook, and more. We need YOU to make it all possible. Please consider how you can get involved with the PTA next year. **We need a PTA President** and there are many other ways to get involved, too - planning one-time community-building events, coordinating teacher appreciation programs, fundraising, working on the yearbook, arranging cultural enrichment assemblies, just to name a few opportunities. Think about how you can apply your skills and interests to make Seawell even better! Review this document about the PTA, and contact Seawell PTA Nominating Committee Chair Megan Huchko (mjhuchko@gmail.com) for more information or to indicate interest.
