PTCG News
The notes are out and donations are coming in for our annual Fun Run on Friday, October 13th! This is our biggest fundraiser of the school year, and we need your help to make it successful for our community. Our school goal is to raise $16,000 this year!
PTCG is collecting donations for the Fun Run in two different ways this school year. Families are welcome to send in a check made out to DeKeyser PTCG or they can collect donations online. Families simply need to click on the link that takes them into a Google form for student information, hit SUBMIT, then click on the link that directs them to pay using PayPal or a Credit/Debit card. Here is the link for donating online: https://tinyurl.com/5asnd9au
We will also need parent volunteers for the Fun Run for both the AM session and PM session. There will be a lunch provided for parent volunteers on that Friday as well. Here is the link for parents to volunteer: https://tinyurl.com/447evhxf AM Session (9:30am-12:00pm): Kdg., 1st Grade, 2nd Grade, 5th Grade PM Session (1:35-3:30pm): 3rd Grade, 4th Grade, 6th Sixth Grade As we get closer to the Fun Run, PTCG will send out updates on how close we are to reaching our school goal and more info about how the event will run for each session. Please feel free to reach out to PTCG if you have any questions! Thank you so much!!
What's Happening at DeKeyser
Nursery / Preschool
The power outage didn't stop our Nursery friends from having fun. When the lights went out we had to think fast. We decided to turn on music and do some flashlight dancing. We also had snack by candlelight ( aka flashlights)
Kindergarten
Our kindergartners had an exciting week as they learned about Johnny Appleseed and all things APPLE! We did apple investigations, made applesauce, and graphed our favorite apples! Labeling is a very important part of our writing process so we labeled the parts of an apple. We also practiced our names and cutting skills by completing an apple name puzzle. But most of all, we learned that learning is FUN! CLICK ON THE DEKEYSER FB PAGE TO SEE ALL PICTURES!
1st Grade
In a lively start to the week, our first graders came together to celebrate Johnny Appleseed's Birthday! They embarked on an exciting journey through interactive apple stations, and each student contributed a fresh apple from home to create a delightful classroom applesauce, fostering teamwork and shared experiences. Additionally, our young learners are diving into individualized reading stations, where they will cultivate their reading skills and abilities, setting the stage for a year filled with growth, achievement and fun!
2nd Grade
Second grade students are learning about what makes a community! This week students celebrated our school community at our first 3 to Be assembly! Many students enjoyed participating in our spirit days in support of Stevenson's homecoming on Friday! We also began our new phonics program where students were actively engaged in making words and gaining a deeper understanding of letters and sounds!
3rd Grade
We are having a great time getting to know each other in third grade! Every day we spend time building relationships during our class meetings and we are reading a class book titled, Third Grade Angels by Jerry Spinelli. Third graders are getting used to their daily schedules and building reading stamina. Students were able to check out library books for the first time this week too! Here are our class pictures.
4th Grade
We are excited about our new science unit in fourth grade! The phenomenon we are exploring is why blackouts occur and how they could be prevented. Our school blackout on Tuesday gave us the chance to experience the effects of power outages firsthand! Fourth graders worked in teams to build simple electrical systems with solar panels, cables, motors, and mini fan blades. Every team successfully created a functioning system! We are looking forward to diving deeper into this unit and finding more answers to our questions.
5th Grade
Last week fifth grade had a wonderful time meeting up with their First-Grade buddies. They worked on an activity to get to know each other and then read a book together. We plan to meet each month to work on a fun and creative activity together. PLEASE CLICK ON THE DEKEYSER FB LINK AT THE TOP OF THE NEWSLETTER TO SEE ALL OF THE PICTURES.
6th Grade
This year 6th grade has adopted the practices from Building a Thinking Classroom. Students are randomly assigned to a group where they are then given a task to complete. This type of approach allows all learners to be part of the solution, develops a student's thinking skills and develops interpersonal skills as well as academic knowledge. Here students were given a Mathematical task to solve.

Media Center
All the students have officially checked out books! Yay!
This week in media center some classes worked on strengthening their typing skills in Typing club. In kindergarten and 1st grade we worked on using our QR codes to log into Schoology and do an activity in our media center tile.

Latest and greatest…
If you take a peek around DeKeyser, you’ll see that our students have been very engaged in activities to build their sense of “belonging and community”! This week- students have also shared ideas of how they expect DeKeyser Elementary to look, sound, and feel when they are here. Their key ideas tied in perfectly our current character trait of RESPECT- feeling valued and cared about by others.
Make it a terrific week Dolphins!
