Colonial Park Weekly News
January 22 - 26
Principal's Note
Dear Colonial Park Families -
I hope everyone's heat has been working this weekend! Looks like we are in for a warm-up this week, which I am sure all of us will welcome. Just a reminder, Friday, January 26 is an Early Release Day for all elementary students. Our preschoolers will be dismissed at 11:40, and students in K through 4 will be dismissed at 12:00.
This month, we have been collecting K- 4 literacy data to prepare for our Middle of the Year Data Meetings. All three of our elementary schools use DIBELS, Star Early Literacy and Star Reading as district wide assessments to help drive the instruction we provide. During our data meetings on February 6, grade level teams, including Ms. Vitale, Mrs. Graham, our interventionists and myself, will work with our Hill for Literacy facilitator to analyze the data and design our next round of WINN groups. Each group will be assigned an instructional focus based on our students' area(s) of need.
I also mentioned in our last newsletter the district decision to pilot Fish Tank Plus, a knowledge based ELA program, for our students in kindergarten through grade 4. Teachers from Colonial Park, South and Robin Hood are piloting units during their Tier 1 reading instruction time, when they are teaching all of their students in the classroom. So far, the feedback has been extremely positive, which is very exciting! Please feel free to reach out to me, or your child's classroom teacher, if you have any questions.
We will continue to have a Hope for Boston's Homeless box set up in our lobby, and the wish list is attached below. We are grateful to our Colonial Park community for your extraordinary generosity.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week!
Best,
Rosa Flynn

Attendance Update From Mrs. Hahesy
If your child misses school due to an illness or injury and is seen by a medical professional, please ask them for documentation of your visit and submit it to school. This helps us to keep track of excused absences for the year. As a quick reminder, once your child reaches 5 unexcused absences, we are obligated by Massachusetts law to reach out to families. The more documentation we have ahead of time, the better. You can submit the documentation digitally by emailing khahesy@stonehamschools.org, k.lapery@stonehamschools.org, and e.faughnan@stonehamschools.org or send in hard copies with your child to school. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!
