8:00-8:45 Keynote Address (Dr. Shiv Dhar) Bridging the Gap
Dr. Shiv Dhar has been faculty member and Course Director for 10 different chemistry courses (General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry) at South College, since August 2004. He graduated with a Master’s degree in Organic Chemistry, and earned his Ph.D. with a specialization in solid rocket propulsion from Pune University, India. Dr. Dhar’s career as a scientist and senior project manager at the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), in India, focused on solid rocket propulsion combustion mechanism and the research, development and application of high energy materials for gun and rocket propellants. He brings in a total of 18 years of strong analytic, creative thinking, training, mentoring, managerial and research experience in basic and applied science and technology, to the classroom. In addition, he has 7 years of experience in teaching in the United States, and was conferred the “Distinguished Teaching Award” of South College in 2006.

9:00-9:45 Maximizing the Use of Your Promethean/Smart Board
Attendees will be introduced to the some of the lesser known tools on the Promethean/Smart board to maximize its potential in the classroom. Rather than using your board as a fancy screen, take full advantage of all it has to offer in your 21st Century Classroom.
10:00- 10:45 The iPad: What to Do with One or an Entire Lab
Attendees will learn how to use the iPad apps Adobe Voice, Green Screen, Socrative, Splashtop, Too Noisy and Intro Designer to create lesson videos, replace the background in videos and photos, create easy bell ringers/exit slips/quizzes/tests, control desktop presentations, monitor the noise level in the classroom, and create high impact trailers for your class.
11:00- 11:45 Go Global: Connecting with Classes Around the World
Attendees will be introduced to the Mystery Skype Project and Global Education Projects they can join with their classes next school year. Imagine your class skyping with students from all over the world and sharing projects with each other via video conferencing.
12:00- 1:00 Lunch in Rymer Dining Hall
1:15- 2:00 Teacher Collaborations: The All-important PLC
Attendees will discuss the importance of PLCs at school. Teachers need to take time to share their expertise with each other. Discover the importance of sharing strategies and tools with your colleagues. Examples of PLC topics used at Sweetwater High School will be shared.
2:15- 3:00 Grouping: The Advantages of Grouping in a 21st Century Classroom
Attendees will discuss how to group students in the classroom as well as the roles to assign to students. Attendees will learn how to share group projects with their classes and with classes around the world.
3:15- 4:00 Teaching with Augmented Reality: Amaze Your Students (and Colleagues) with Awesome Video Overlays
Attendees will be introduced to the iPad apps Aurasma and Tellagami. With Aurasma teachers and students can create video overlays that are triggered when people scan posted items in the classroom such as a bulletin board or projects. Teachers can create an entirely interactive classroom environment. With Tellagami teachers and students can produce animated characters that speak over a background of your choice from your photo library or the web. The characters can introduce your lesson, relate short messages or explain lesson content.
