News From the Principal
Dear Randall Middle School Students, Families and Caregivers,
Spring has sprung and it’s finally time to be outdoors to enjoy the nicer weather. There are many exciting activities coming up in the final few weeks of the 2021-2022 school year.
On Friday, April 29, 2022, we enjoyed Wishing Day, a day where we hung wishes on our very own “Wishtree” outside near the playground. The Wishtree came from the book The Wishtree by Katherine Applegate, our Cortland community’s “One Book, One Community” for 2022. Have you read Wishtree? We read Wishtree as a Randall Middle School community by listening to a chapter each day that had been previously recorded by a CECSD staff member. Feel free to listen to it here.
We have our Spring Music Concert and Art Show on Wednesday, May 4 at CHS. Our learners have worked very hard on improving their music and art skills and are looking forward to sharing their accomplishments with their loved ones.
We will be having some ambassadors from Cortland Junior High School come to visit our 6th graders to share all of the details about their Junior High experience. Then on May 11, current 6th graders and families are encouraged to attend the 7th grade information night at CJHS at 6 PM.
Each of our 6th graders will be receiving a class of 2028 t-shirt in honor of their completion of 6th grade. A big shout out to the Randall Middle School PTO for providing these shirts! Our Randall Middle School PTO is very supportive of our school community, and their fundraisers enable this level of support to occur. We will be having one more PTO fundraiser this year. Students will be bringing home order forms for products from Sinfully Sweet in Homer. We have tried to support local businesses by ensuring our fundraisers are through local businesses. The homeroom classroom community with the highest sales total will have an ice cream party, and the student with the highest sales total will be the “Assistant Principal for the Day.”
In June, we will be having the 6th grade Randall Middle School musical, and students will have an opportunity to try out for the musical this week. The performance will be on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 in the evening.
Despite all the fun and excitement of the last few weeks of the school year, we still have a great deal of learning left to do. Each grade level has essential standards that each student is working to show proficiency with. Teachers continue to collaborate, research, and implement additional strategies to ensure all learners meet proficiency.
The first week in May is School Staff Appreciation Week. I encourage you to discuss the positive things your learner recognizes about the teachers and school staff they interact with each day. We are so lucky to have the bright, dedicated, hardworking staff we have at Randall Middle School. I would like to share a quote that does a nice job summing up our staff’s passion:
Teachers (School staff members) have three loves: love of learning, love of learners, and the love of bringing the first two loves together.’–Scott Hayden
Have a magnificent May!
With Purple Tiger Pride,
~Juli Quinn, Randall Middle School Principal
News From the Nurse
All 5th graders and any new admits to the Cortland School District, are required to have a physical examination. If your child has already had one and you have sent a copy to the nurse, you are all set. If your child needs a physical, please make an appointment to get one, then have it faxed to the nurse at (607)-oh 5758-4179. If you prefer a school physical, call the nurse. The information will be taken from the health appraisals of students from the 2020/2021 school year. Each student’s health examination is required to include Body Mass Index (BMI) and weight status category (WSC). If you do not wish your child’s data (no personal identification) to be included in this survey please contact your school health office.

Library Upgrade
The library has gotten an upgrade! Thanks to a capital project grant, the Randall Middle Library now has new tables, chairs, shelves, and collaborative work spaces. The students are loving the new space and it will be wonderful to work in for this year and next.
The book fair is also coming on MAY 9-13! Please visit our book fair website at : https://www.scholastic.com/bf/randallmiddle to browse the catalogs, set up an e-wallet, and do some online shopping. We can’t wait to get some new books!
We also are continuing to try our hardest to get books in the hands of ALL learners here at Randall. For this purpose we have set up an E-Wallet that the community can contribute to in order to buy books for students who may not be able to purchase their own. If you are able, please consider donating to help get a book in the hand of every student.
