SOLAR ECLIPSE - MONDAY, AUGUST 21, 2017
On Monday, August 21, some of our classes will have the unique educational opportunity to watch the solar eclipse. For teachers who are incorporating outdoor viewing activities with their students, we have discussed appropriate safety precautions, and students will be closely monitored. However, parents who wish to opt their child out of this event can inform us of their intent in writing by emailing Jared Moore at Jared_Moore@plsd.us.
Students will be supervised by staff when outside, but it might only take a few seconds for a student to look at the sun without appropriate safety gear, so we encourage you to consider talking with your student about the importance of following the safety precautions. Teachers will be talking with their students as well, but hearing it more than once can't hurt.
More information about the 2017 solar eclipse can be found on NASA’s website at https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/. This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity for our students. The last time such an event was viewable from the continental U.S. was in 1918.
Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
