Welcome Back Phillippi Families!
August Newsletter 2021
A Message from Mrs. Staley
Dear Phillippi Families,
I hope you had a wonderful, relaxing summer break and that you are recharged and ready to start a new school year. I welcome and value your positive energy and dedication to your child's education, and I look forward to working with you and your children. I am so delighted to be part of this amazing learning community. Above all, I am excited to observe, listen, learn, and understand what makes Phillippi thrive.
All signs point to another incredible school year. Our dedicated staff has been busy planning and preparing for your child(ren). Our enthusiastic office team is registering new families, ordering needed materials and updating student files. Our hard working and conscientious custodians have spent the entire summer thoroughly cleaning the facility. And, our much-appreciated PTO is gearing up to welcome families, provide volunteer opportunities, and offer other exciting events and programs.
I know many of our students and families are eagerly anticipating the full reopening of our campus here at Phillippi. In order to increase social distancing in the cafeteria and maintain the health of our students we are not allowing visitors at lunch for the first few weeks of school. Please continue to watch for communication regarding lunch visitors as the school year continues. As further guidance is provided by the district we will continue to communicate any changes that come our way. A revised 2021-2022 Sarasota County Schools Return to Learn Guidance document should be on the website by the end of this week. As you know, things change continually so please check your child's backpack and read all communication that is sent home throughout the school year.
The 2021-2022 year will be a great one at Phillippi!
Meet Your Teacher
We will officially start the new school year with our annual “Meet Your Teacher” event this Thursday, August 5, from 4:00-6:00 PM! Representatives from Food & Nutrition, Transportation, Health Services, our before and after school program, the PTO, and Community Involvement will be available. Also, we will be selling uniform shirts in the front office.
Class lists will be available in the cafeteria at Meet Your Teacher. If you are one of the many parents who completed an academic placement request form, please be assured that each request was taken into consideration. We have done our best to match the profile you provided with a compatible teacher. Please realize that all placements are subject to change based on school and district-wide enrollment and staffing assignments.
First Day of School
The all-important first day of school is Tuesday, August 10th. Our student day begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:15 p.m. We welcome children on campus in the morning any time after 8:00 a.m. for breakfast and 8:15 a.m. to go to the classrooms. Please do not bring them prior to that time, as we will not have appropriate supervision available. If you need childcare earlier than 8:15 a.m., we offer a before-school program for which there is a charge. Our bookkeeper, Tina Borres, will be available in the cafeteria to enroll children at our Meet Your Teacher event.
Campus Safety
I am happy to share that Officer Mark Opitz will continue to be our SRO at Phillippi. We will continue to have a closed campus for drop-off, which means parents will not be able to walk students to class. There are plenty of staff members, PTO Volunteers, and safety patrol participants to get students to the right place at the start of the school year.
Visitors will need to go through the daily Raptor system.
For the safety of our students, please remember that you MUST show your orange car tag in the afternoon when picking up your child from car pick-up or cafeteria walk-up. Please show the tag when entering and exiting the cafeteria for walk-up or on your rearview mirror for car pick-up. In order to pick up other children, you MUST have their car tag with you. Otherwise, you need to report to the office for us to check if you are on the child’s approved dismissal list. If you have questions regarding our dismissal procedures, please contact the front office at 361-6424. Thank you for following our procedures to ensure the safety of our students.
