Last Friday’s pep rally and lunchtime activities got the Wolves pumped up for Saturday’s game. One highlight included Chuck Altoff and Dave Nickell, 1949 CHS State Champions, being honored at the pep rally. Thanks to everyone who participated in the tailgate activities, including the dance party, barbeque, poster making and games, and thanks to StuCo for organizing!

The City of Chandler is accepting applications through January 25, 2019, for the Mayor's Teen Leadership Academy. This is a great opportunity for high school students to learn about the inner-workings of city government by meeting with the Mayor and City Council members as well as managers and staff from every city department. The academy will be held March 11 - 15 during the first week of spring break. Students will meet from 9 a.m. - noon each day during this five-day academy and participate in activities to better understand how Arizona's fourth largest city is run.

Attached is a link to the webpage and application. Students are asked to fill out the application and submit a brief essay of 200 words or less. Applicants must be City of Chandler residents.

The High School Health and Wellness program at CHS has been working on educating the students of Chandler High School about the dangers of vaping and trying to share other ways to deal with stress or anxiety instead of turning to vaping.

  • Over 1,500 Chandler students attended an anti-vaping presentation at the Chandler Center for the Arts during Prevention week the last week in October.
  • There are PowerPoints and videos posted on the High School Health and Wellness page on the school website
  • Next semester, CHS will host TWO parent informational meetings about the dangers of vaping (one in English and one in Spanish). Exact dates to be announced in January.
  • Anti-vaping posters have been hung up around campus.
  • A student support group has been created that meets on Tuesdays to practice mindfulness and stress reduction to help them cope with anxiety and depression.
  • If you would like more information about how to join the Tuesday Mindfulness group, please see Mrs. Hunter in the front office, or Mrs. Hobbs and Mrs. Baumann in the Student Services Department.

The session will offer tools and strategies to recognize, better manage stress and provide actionable strategies that can be implemented immediately to bring more focus, productivity and energy into your life. You will create your own roadmap for 2019 and be able to share some of these strategies with your teenagers so they can be better prepared for their life now, after high school, college, career and beyond.
