Meet Mrs. Todd

Sunny Pointe Elementary Counselor

What does your school counselor do?

I wear many different hats at SPE. The primary responsibility as counselor is to implement the Missouri Comprehensive Guidance model and the Blue Springs School District counseling curriculum. In addition to these responsibilities, you and your child will see me helping out wherever I am needed in the building whether that is enrolling new students or providing supervision on the playground or lunchroom.

At SPE, the school counselor:

*Teachs classroom counseling lessons. These lessons focus around these three areas:

**Personal and Social Development

**Academic Development

**Career Development

*Facilitates short-term small group counseling sessions on various topics such as self-esteem, social skills, divorce, grief, and book clubs.

*Provides immediate and short-term individual counseling

*Collaborates with teachers and staff

*Consults with parents when needs arise with your child at school or at home

*Provides information and/or referrals for community resources or agencies

*Coordinates other events throughout the year that support the counseling curriculum such as: Career Day, Red Ribbon Week, and MOSCA Personal Safety presentations.

Events and Activities Coming in 2013-2014

What Can The School Counselor Do For You?

Please feel free to contact me via phone or e-mail anytime you have a concern about your child. It is my philosophy that every student at SPE be able to do the best they can to learn in their classroom. If there are issues that need to be addressed for this to happen, I want to be able to help. My contact information is at the bottom of this flyer.

Mission statement

The mission of the Sunny Pointe Elementary counseling department is to be guided by the Missouri Comprehensive Guidance Model, the Blue Springs School District counseling curriculum, and the ASCA National Model for School Counseling Program. The SPE school counselor provides a comprehensive curriculum that includes instruction in academic, career, and personal and social development. In partnering with other educators, parents, and the community, the counselor will provide a support system which will reach every student and will provide a safe and nurturing environment that allows students to reach their maximum potential to learn. The counseling department will advocate for each child and provide opportunities for students to feel dignity and worth. The counselor will support and promote the overall goals for student achievement and success.
