Transition
Rising 7th Graders
Jr. High Choir tryouts for 6th graders will be held on Tuesday, January 29, Wednesday, January 30, and Thursday, January 31. The Blue and Gray team students will audition on Tuesday, January 29 in the morning, and Purple and White team students will audition on Wednesday morning, January 30. Please refer to the schedule that was shared with you on the Google drive for the exact times. Thursday, January 31 will be available for any 6th grader who was not able to audition on the first two days.
Course Selector information needs to be completed by Greene School teachers before February 14. HERE is the sheet if you are looking for it.
6th grade tours to the Junior High - Change of date: The orientation/tour/lunch at the Junior High for 6th graders will now be on Friday, February 22, 2019. ALL 6th graders will go at the same time and details will be forthcoming. This will take the place of the original tours that were scheduled for April 24 and 25.
The JH counselors will be meeting with every 6th grade student on March 4th (Gray and White) and 5th (Blue and Purple). Each day they will work with two teams. Students will be pulled out of social studies class for a short period of time as the three counselors work one on one with students.
Rising 6th Graders
We are making an adjustment to the process used to place students on teams. Here is a message that will go out to parents in the coming weeks. Please let me know if you have any questions.
At the Greene School, we place a high value on relationships and believe that placement with at least one friend assists our students with the transition to the intermediate school. Students are placed by academic, social, and emotional needs. We collaborate with fourth grade teachers and parents to gather information. In addition, we ask parents to list six friends on a student information form that you will receive in February. While we will not be taking parent requests for specific teachers or teams, we will be taking requests for placement with a friend. This friend will be in your child’s homeroom and with him/her at lunch and recess, providing a familiar face throughout the day allowing for continued relationship building at Greene. We do offer a variety of Project Based Learning experiences at the Greene School. Your child will be placed in a team that uses a PBL approach one of the 2 years at Greene.
Rising 5th Graders
We have a transition timeline in place to welcome the rising 5th graders to the Greene School. HERE it is if you would like to take a look. I also want to let you know that the 4th grade teachers have been getting questions about how we place students and what this PBL stuff is all about. I shared a document with those teachers to help answer questions from parents. Thanks to the Green Team for helping to create talking points. HERE is the document.
I caught word this week that the elementary media specialists are planning a fun activity to help with transition. I don't have all of the details of how this will work. Students will be creating a video on Flipgrid to introduce themselves to their Greene School peers. The media specialists are going to arrange students by team so they can virtually get to know classmates from other elementary schools before the school year starts.
