Thank You for Your Help!
Today we had our first quarter incentive, a Carnival Recess, which students had to earn by following the HERO expectations. Students had to have earned 5 building tickets to attend, and they could not have any office referrals. We wanted to thank all families who helped to make this a success. We had plenty of lollipops, and popsicles donated, and we had enough volunteers to monitor the activities and keep kids safe. We appreciate all of the support from everyone!
Picture Retakes and Pictures for Preschool
If you are not happy with your student's school pictures or your child was not at school for picture day, the retake picture day will be next Thursday, October 19.
iReady Tips for Families
Please see the link below for ways to support your students on iReady as well as what you can ask your child to show you to help monitor their progress. Our goal is to have all students meet their typical growth goal established in iReady by the end of the school year. Students that meet this goal have shown a growth of one year over the school year. Students that may not be up to grade level can benefit by working towards their stretch growth, which will help them grow more than one year, helping to close the gap between their current placement and grade level expectations.
The Mobile Dentist is Coming
The Dental Mobile unit will be at SCE on Wednesday, November 1st, Thursday, November 2nd, and Friday, November 3rd. Consent forms should have been sent home with all students. They are due back by Friday, October 20th.
Veteran's Day is Coming
Sycamore Creek is planning a Veteran’s Day celebration! Activities will include music provided by our students, patriotic art projects on display, poetry readings by fourth grade students, and a photo slideshow to honor all former and active military families affiliated with Sycamore Creek Elementary.
The celebration will be Friday, November 10. The assembly will be for veterans, active military and family members of veterans or active military that are part of the Sycamore Creek Elementary Community. More information will be sent home, including an RSVP, in the following weeks.
We need your help! We are asking families if you have an active or military veteran in your family that you would like honored, please send us some photos! If you sent us photos last year, you do not need to send them again. All photos that were part of the slideshow, with the exception of last year’s fourth grade students, will remain in the slideshow unless you request they be removed or updated.
We would appreciate it if the photos could be sent to us digitally so that we do not need to worry about returning them in a timely manner to the correct student. We know how precious some of those photographs can be. (This can be as easy as taking a picture of the military photo with your phone.)
You can upload these pictures using this link:

Please have all pictures uploaded before Wednesday, October 25, 2023

OCTOBER CHARACTER TRAIT: EMPATHY
Here at Sycamore Creek, we have been learning about EMPATHY - what it means and how we can show EMPATHY to others!
Learning happens best when it is done both at school and at home. Below are some ways that you can help your child continue to learn about the theme of EMPATHY through practicing it, talking about it, and/or reading about it!
Practice it: Help your child practice considering the needs of others. When you are watching TV or reading books, ask your child when he/she thinks the characters are feeling, and what they might need in that situation. What could you say or do to help that person?
Talk about it: Here are some discussion points to help you talk about EMPATHY with your child
What does it mean to be EMPATHETIC and why is it important?
Is it easy or difficult for you to have EMPATHY for others?
Tell me about a time when you were EMPATHETIC towards someone else?
Tell me about a time when someone else was EMPATHETIC towards you?
What would the world be like if people considered the feelings of others more often?
How can you tell how someone else may be feeling?
How can you tell what someone else may need?
Read about it: Here are some books to help you learn more about EMPATHY:
Hey, Little Ant by Hanna and Phillip Hoose
What’s Wrong With Timmy? by Maria Shriver
Everyone by Christopher Silas Neal
The Journey by Francesca Sanna
