Oak Harbor High School's Top Ten Students: Class of 2020
Congratulations Students!
Oak Harbor High School's Top Ten Students, along with their honored educator will be recognized in June by Ottawa County's Northpoint ESC.
Congratulations to these Future Ready Rockets
Important Update
Today, Governor DeWine announced that K-12 school buildings will be closed to students for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. This was not a surprise. The Governor encourages school districts around the state to continue their "amazing" remote instruction arrangements to finish out this school year.
Therefore, Benton-Carroll-Salem School District will continue our Remote Instruction Plan through the end of this school year. The last day of teaching and learning will be May 29, 2020 (the originally scheduled last day of school).
It is important that our students remain focused on their learning for the remaining 28 school days. The work students are completing will continue to count toward their grade. Our teachers will continue to be working with students to make sure they have the essential skills they need to be successful in the next grade level. I wish to again thank the dedication of our teachers and students for the creativity, flexibility, and resilience you have shown through this crisis.
The B-C-S Meal Service will also continue through May 29.
The last day of school for high school seniors will still be May 15. We are looking at all of our options for Oak Harbor High School graduation.
We will continue to keep you updated.

What is happening with Commencement for the Class of 2020?
Commencement is a seminal moment in the lives of young people! We may have to postpone the OHHS Commencement (May 17) due to an Ohio Department of Health Order limiting the number of people who can get together.
We are considering options and alternatives if we are forced to postpone Commencement. We will strive to have a traditional, face to face Commencement.
We believe our Class of 2020 deserves to have this memory and recognition!
Stay tuned.
School Meal Update
For the Week of April 20 and beyond, we will be serving meals on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays only. On Mondays and Wednesdays, students will get two days' worth of meals. On Fridays, students will get one day of meals.
We are making this change to limit the exposure of all involved in this process.
Meals will continue to be FREE to all Benton-Carroll-Salem students. The meal distribution site for all students will continue to be R.C. Waters Elementary School. Delivery of meals will still be available on the days we are serving meals. Please be sure to call (419) 898-6219 between 8 AM and 10 AM to request your delivery.

Mental Health and Well Being
These are challenging times for adults, and more so for young people. If you think your child can benefit from talking to a counselor, please do not hesitate to call your child's school on March 30 or after.
I also want to remind you of the Crisis Text Line:
Text HOME to 741741 from anywhere in the United States, anytime, about any type of crisis.
One suggestion for our overall mental health is for us to all get outside and walk, or do some kind of physical activity (while practicing social distancing). Something as simple as a walk can do wonders for the mood and help with anxiety.

Entrance age to Kindergarten Change
2/27/2020
TO: All Stakeholders
I am writing to make you aware that the school district has changed its policy on the entrance age to Kindergarten. Effectively immediately, each child who is five years of age on or before August 1 is eligible to enroll in Kindergarten.
Prior to this, students had to be five years of age on or before September 30.
The district has made this change based on Kindergarten readiness research, and upon the recommendation of the staff and administration of R.C. Waters Elementary School. This change is in the best interests of students who will enter Kindergarten, and will improve the prospects of their educational career. This change to August 1st also puts Benton-Carroll-Salem Schools in line with the vast majority of school districts in our area.
Sincerely,
Guy L. Parmigian
Superintendent
