Principal's Message for Week of June 5--June 9
We have made it to the last week of school! Can you believe it? We have a fun and busy week ahead as we get ready for summer break! Please read through this entire message so you are up to date on all SHS happenings.
A BIG thank you to the staff and families that came out and supported the School Beautification Day on Saturday! Our campus looks so good! We got so many projects completed. Stay tuned for the next work day!
URGENT Request: Help with PTA Thrift Shop Work Night on Tuesday
- We are down more than 1,100 volunteer hours this year, which means we will not receive as much money in the fall if we don't get our numbers up. Less money from the PTA Thrift Store results in more fundraisers at our school.

- Friday, June 9: 3rd Grade Awards at 8:30am; 6th/7th Grade Awards at 8:30am; Early Release for Students at 11:30am
EOG Retesting for 3rd-8th Grade:
- EOG scores will be sent home on Monday, June 5. Each student will receive their scores in an envelope. Please make sure you get these from your student!
- Students that do not make a proficient or passing score on their EOGs will have the opportunity to retake their tests on June 12, 13 and 14. Bus transportation will be provided.
- 3rd Grade students can only retake their Math EOG based on NC Legislation.
- 4th-8th Grade students can retake their reading, math and science EOGs.
- If your child needs to retake an EOG, please return the invitation by Wednesday, June 7. We need this information to create bus routes.

I hope you all had a great Memorial Day weekend! I know that we are all appreciative of those that lost their lives defending our freedom. We have another busy week ahead so please read through all of the following updates.

PTA Thrift Shop Work Night on Monday: We Need Volunteers!
- We have a PTA Thrift Shop Work Night on Monday at 5:30pm and we need volunteers! This work night is for all girls who played any sport this year. Sports include cross country, basketball, cheer, softball, and volleyball!

Band Concert for 4th-8th Graders: Tuesday at 5:30pm
- Come support our Eagle musicians on Tuesday, May 23 at 5:30pm. Please note this is a correction in time from last week's message!
- The concert will be held at Jordan Matthews High School and will take place outdoors. Please come out and support our Eagles!
EOGs Start on Friday!
- Our 3rd-8th Graders will take their Reading EOG on Friday, May 26. PLEASE make sure your child comes to school (unless they are sick) on Friday for their EOG if they are in 3rd-8th grade.
- Encourage your child to do their best--that's all we can ask! Make sure your child goes to bed early, gets a good breakfast, and arrives to school on time.

Happy Mother's Day to all of our Eagle Moms! Nothing is like a mother's love and I know we appreciate all things that our mothers do for us each day!
A big shout out and thank you to the 8th Grade parents who helped with the prom on Saturday night! The space was beautiful and the kids had a great time! Thank you for all of your hard work and making this event so special!
EC/AIG Parent Night and PTA Meeting on Monday!
- All parents are invited to our EC/AIG Parent Night and PTA Meeting on Monday, May 15 at 6:00pm in the media center. Come learn about the opportunities that EC and AIG offer our students. We will also unveil our design for our Sensory Garden Project so please come out and see how you can get involved!
Rising Kindergarten Parent Night is on Thursday!
- Our Rising Kindergarten Parent Night is on Thursday, May 18 at 6:00pm. Come learn about all things kindergarten for the 23-24 school year. We will share a lot of information about kindergarten and answer any questions you may have. We hope to see you there!
Mark Your Calendars: Band Concert is Next Tuesday:
- Our 4th--8th Grade musicians will have their spring concert on Tuesday, May 23 at 6:00pm. This concert will be held outdoors at Jordan Matthews High School. We will also have student artwork on display. Please come out and support our musicians!

I hope you all had a great weekend! A BIG THANK YOU to our amazing PTA for a great Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week last week! We all felt the love and are so appreciative of all that you do for us!
8th Grade Prom is on Saturday:
- Our 8th Grade Prom is this Saturday, May 13 at 6:00pm. Thank you to the parent committee who organized and planned this event. I know everyone will have a great time!
Kindergarten and 8th Grade Cap and Gown Picture Make-Ups:
- Kindergarten and 8th grade cap and gown make-up pictures are on Thursday, May 11. If your child missed this picture opportunity, please have them ready for pictures on Thursday. If you need picture information, please call the front office.
End of Year Assessments Start This Week:
- End of Year Testing starts this week! Our kindergarten through third grade students will take their last mClass reading assessment this week. End-of-Grade testing for 3rd-8th grade students begins on Friday, May 26 with the Reading EOG. The Math EOG will be on Wednesday, May 31 and the Science EOG for 5th and 8th grade is on Thursday, June 1. Our students that are taking Math I will have their EOC on Friday, June 2.

Hi Eagles!
I hope you all are doing well and had a great weekend! It is Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week! We are excited to celebrate our amazing staff this week. We are very appreciative of all their hard work!
Help Celebrate Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week:
- Monday- Fan Mail Day
- Tuesday- High five the staff
- Wednesday- Wear your teachers favorite color (ask teachers to let there student know what their favorite color is)
- Thursday – Dress up as a Movie Character your teacher might like
- Friday- Send in a small thank you gift to your child teacher
Middle School Elective Selection for 2023-2024--Return Forms!
- Attention 5th, 6th and 7th grade parents--Elective registration forms went home on Friday. 5th grade papers are blue; 6th grade papers are yellow; and 7th grade papers are green.
- Please review the electives your child selected for next year. Please sign and return the forms to your child's homeroom teacher no later than Friday, May 5.
- Elective schedules will not be changed after August 25, 2023.
Middle School PBIS Trip Payment
- Attention middle school parents: Please submit your child's payment for the end of year PBIS trip as soon as possible. Information was sent home last week. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's homeroom teacher.
Come Cheer on the Eagles!
- We have two baseball games this week.
- On Monday, our baseball team will travel to Bonlee to play.
- On Tuesday, we will play JS Waters at home. Games start at 4:15pm. We hope to see you there!

Red Carpet Fashion Show is Monday at 6:00pm!
- Join us on the Red Carpet as we celebrate with music, art, and fabulous clothing from the PTA Thrift Store!
- Our band will play a few selections so come out to hear some great music! Art work will be displayed as well so come see how talented our students are!
- The event is free and will be located in our Mutli-Purpose Room.

Little Caesars Pizza Kit Pick-Up: Wednesday, April 5 from 2:00--6:00pm:
- If you placed orders during the Little Caesars Pizza Kit fundraiser, pick-up is on Wednesday, April 5 from 2:00--6:00pm. You must pick up orders on Wednesday. We do not have any storage space to store these pizza kits. If you have any questions, please reach out to our PTA.
8th Grade Trip to Jordan Matthews on Tuesday, April 4:
- All 8th graders will travel to Jordan Matthews High School on Tuesday, April 4 for a tour. Students will be gone for about an hour.
- Our students that applied to the AVID program will remain at JMHS all day to shadow students and complete their interviews.
- Parents, please send back permission forms by Monday! If you have questions, please reach out to Michelle Scott.
Spring Picture Day is on Monday AND Tuesday:
- On Monday, April 3, our 8th graders will take their individual and class pictures.
- On Monday, April 3, our volleyball and baseball teams will take their spring sports pictures.
- On Tuesday, April 4, our kindergarten through 7th graders will take their individual and class pictures.
- Information was sent home on Wednesday with students. If you have questions, please call the front office.
We Need Your Help! PTA Thrift Shop Work Night on Thursday!
- We are in need of volunteers to serve at our work night for Thursday, April 6. Work Nights start at 5:45pm.

- Good luck to our very own Carisa Andrew who is performing in Shrek! Our 3rd-5th graders will get to experience this amazing performance on Thursday.

Our Kindergarten--3rd Grade Fundraiser ends on Friday, March 10!
- Please send all monies collected for the calendars by March 10.

4th--8th Grade Pizza Kit Fundraiser:

AVID Applications for Jordan Matthews High School:
- If your 8th grader is interested in applying for the AVID program at JM, the applications are due by Wednesday, March 8th. The application is online through a Google form and has been emailed to all 8th graders. Students will also need to request teacher recommendations from their teachers, as part of the application process. These need to be requested as soon as possible to give teachers enough time to complete them by March 8th.

Principal's Message: Week of February 27--March 3
I hope everyone had a great weekend! We have a fun week ahead as we celebrate the magic of reading!
Please join us for our Spring Parent Night on Monday, February 27 at 6:00pm. We'll start with a school safety presentation in the Multi-Purpose Room. After our presentation, you are invited to visit your child's classroom to see all of their amazing work and to read with students at our Reading Cafe in our library. We will have small snacks available for those that attend. We hope to see you there!
This week is Read Across America Week! We have lots of activities and a spirit week planned.
Monday: Cozy Up with a Good Book-Wear Pajamas!
Tuesday: Oh the Places You'll Go--Wear your Favorite College Shirt!
Wednesday: Learn a Thing or Two from a Book--Dress as Thing 1 or Thing 2
Thursday: Cat in the Hat! Wear your Favorite Hat or as your Favorite Seuss Character!
Friday: Reading Gives Us Character! Dress as your Favorite Book Character!
We will have a Book Character Parade that parents are invited to attend. It will occur first thing from 8:00--8:30am. Parents must check-in with the front office and stand in designated areas. We hope to see you there!
We have a Parent PTA Thrift Shop Work Night on Thursday, March 2 at 5:45pm. We would love for more volunteers to sign up. The link to sign up is here!
Our Kindergarten--3rd Grade Fundraiser will end on March 10. Please send all monies collected for the calendars by March 10 to your child's homeroom teacher. Cash or checks made out to Silk Hope PTA are accepted.
8th Grade Parents: If your 8th grader is interested in applying for the AVID program at JM, the applications are due by Wednesday, March 8th. The application is online through a Google form and has been emailed to all 8th graders. Students will also need to request teacher recommendations from their teachers, as part of the application process. These need to be requested as soon as possible to give teachers enough time to complete them by March 8th. Please let Mrs. Scott know if you have any questions.
Yearbooks are on sale! The link to purchase yearbooks is linked here. Yearbooks are $40. Orders are due by this Tuesday!
PowerSchool was updated over the last week, which caused more technical challenges with sending out progress reports. Progress reports were printed and sent home. If you did not receive your child's report card, please reach out to their homeroom teacher.
Talking Points, our messaging system, was also updated this week. If you sent messages or did not receive messages this week, we apologize. The application is now up and running again.
