We sure did enjoy the Aesop Fables puppet show. It was really good! We will do an entire unit over fables, folktales and fairy tales next month. This was a good introduction.
Spelling lists went home on Friday and the test will be next Friday, 3/3. Please study with your kiddo!
The kids have been very busy preparing for Open House. We have lots of projects and fun things to share with you. We look forward to seeing you on Thursday!
We had a special visit from the 8th graders in the McKamy Spanish class. The students came and did a lesson on color word in Spanish with us. We had so much fun and learned alot. They will come 2 more times this school year. Being an El Paso/border girl I had to giggle at the way our North Texas kiddos pronounce Spanish words with a Texas accent. Too cute!
I had the opportunity to be part of a fun evening with the 9th graders from my church this week. We all met at Bari's and the kids practiced their social skill and date manners. The boys wore ties and the girls wore dresses and they changed seats every course so they had to make conversation with lots of different people. What fun it was to see kids interacting (not on cell phones) and using their best etiquette.
Have a great weekend!

WHAT WE ARE LEARNING
264 + _____= 478 or 478 - _____=264
They get so confused by having to subtract to find the answer to an addition problem. I finally made a chart like this:
A + B = C
B + A = C
C - A = B
C - B = A
I want them to really see that all of the facts are related, just like on a domino. Please practice with them by making up problems like this that have a missing number and have them work on subtracting to find the missing number or the other way, adding to find the missing number. This is hard, but a critical concept.
LANGUAGE ARTS/SOCIAL STUDIES-We learned alot about President's Day and Abraham Lincoln this week. The kids worked on an autobiographical poem and creating a shiel or coat of arms reflecting their personality. We are still doing biographies and changes over time projects.
SCIENCE-We are in the middle of making a lapbook to reflect our learning about natural resources. They will be experts by the time we finish. We also completed all of our penguin research.
