Extra Yearbooks on Sale

If you didn't purchase a yearbook and would still like to get one for your child, we will be selling the remaining copies of the yearbooks outside the front office both before (7:30-8:10 am) and after (2:30-3:10 pm) school beginning today, until they are gone. $26 per copy, cash or check (paid to Homestead ES) only. No credit card payments.

Yearbook Signing/Board /Card Games, Tuesday, May 31

We will have a Yearbook Signing party Tuesday morning. Please help your child remember to bring their yearbook back to school that day.

Tuesday afternoon, we will be playing board or card games, so each student needs to bring one or two.

Splash Day, Wednesday, June 1

Tuesday, June 1, our PTA has arranged for Splash Day. This event is the End of Year Party for each grade level. Each grade level has a scheduled time to play on a couple of big blow-up water slides and have snow cones. Students should wear their swimsuits under their shorts and t-shirt to school, and bring a towel. We will have lunch in the room at 11:15. Students either need to bring a sack lunch, or they will be able to buy a sack lunch from the cafeteria.

11:15-11:45 - Lunch in the classroom

12:00-1:00 - 5th grade Splash Time

1:00-1:45 - Snow Cones

Last Day of School Schedule, Thursday, June 2

Students need to wear their swimsuits under their shorts and t-shirt because there will not be time between the awards, hall walk, and pool party for them to change.

8:45-9:45 - 5th grade Awards Assembly

Parents are welcome and encouraged to come! Students will receive awards, a monogrammed towel from PTA, and watch the End of Year DVD. You can see the presentation that was created with all of the pictures you sent in this year. Thank you to Stephanie Smith for spending countless hours putting this presentation together!

9:45-10:00 - Hall Walk

5th graders make their final walk of the halls of Homestead while students and teachers in all other grade levels line the halls and applaud them as they come by. Parents who may not have needed tissues to this point usually do now!

10:00-12:30 - Pool Party

We will walk over to the Homestead Community Pool for our pool party. PTA will provide lunch for the kids. Parents are welcome to join us at poolside. Students will be given a monogrammed towel at the awards, however we encourage kids NOT to take those to the pool because there will then be over 100 towels exactly alike at the pool. It works much better if students bring their own towel for the party, and save the new towel for later.

12:30 - Early Dismissal

Students will be dismissed at 12:30.

Parents may sign their child only out at the pool. We will have a sign out sheet there. If not signed out at the pool, we will walk back from the pool about 12:20 for dismissal from school at 12:30.

Math with Mrs. Baldwin

Can you believe that the year is almost over?!?!?!?

Think Through Math will be available for all students all summer long. I highly recommend that students spend time regularly on this during the summer in order to retain the 5th grade skills.

This year will be my last year as a Homestead Mustang. I am moving to Frisco ISD, to help open up a brand new school. I will be teaching in the 5th grade hallway at Coy Miller Elementary in Little Elm. The past 10 years that I have spent at Homestead have been such a gift, and this school will always have a special place in my heart.

Thank you for allowing me to be your child's math teacher this year. I wish them the very best as they begin their journey into middle school.

Science/Social Studies with Miss Roberts

Science & Social Studies

I've enjoyed teaching your children this year! Have a fun and safe summer, and stay in touch!

ELA with Mrs. Godfrey

Kidblog.org will still be available for your child to log into and chat with his/her classmates.

I really appreciated your child's willingness to listen to all the read-alouds, write, and discover/read different genres this year! I hope that your child will continue to read for fun. Thank you all for a great year!

I will be leaving Homestead after 9 years. I have decided to stay-at home next year because this has been my first opportunity to do so in 22 years of teaching. It's time for me to take a break and focus on my family. Leaving Homestead was definitely not an easy decision for me. Who knows? I might see your child up at ACMS since my daughter will be in 8th grade next year. Maybe I'll sub. I know that we will all see each other again. :)

Students should have access to iStation from home over the summer using their iPads. You might want to encourage them to use it a few minutes each week to just keep them fresh. The link to see how to access over the summer is http://info.istation.com/summer. Also, the Carrollton Public Library has a wonderful Summer Reading Program. Be sure to check them out at http://cityofcarrollton.com/index.aspx?page=114.

Whatever you do, encourage your kids to read just for enjoyment over the summer. Even better, pick a book that you can read together!
