CAL Update
January 2024
Director's Greeting
Greetings CAL Students and Families,
Our first semester is quickly coming to an end, and we have so much to be proud of. Please join me in celebrating all students have accomplished first semester (see below).
Change Lab seniors participated in internships- working alongside business owners and entrepreneurs to prepare for their futures. In the image below, students present their internship experiences with the Gresham Chamber of Commerce.
Media Lab students are nearly at the completion of the first animation course at CAL and have created outstanding stop-motion films. Check It Out Here
Manufacturing and Engineering Juniors have been testing their engineering skills by designing, prototyping, and testing several bridge designs and developing new shop skills! Seniors are well on their way with their capstones, and I look forward to their presentations this Spring. Students also recently toured a local industry partner!
Health Science students have been hard at work preparing for the future! Students develop critical emergency medicine and patient care skills, engage with medical professionals as guest speakers, and study hard in their classes. Dental seniors have spent the semester developing their skills and are ready to use them. Our dental seniors are headed to their clinical sites at the beginning of the second semester!
Tech Lab students have been busy! Students have built their own computers, attended an industry conference, and have been working on complex programming and refining their electronics skills. Students also competed in a national cyber security competition, and two of our CAL students ranked in the top 100 nationally (out of thousands of participants). Congratulations, Tech Lab! In the image below, students attend the BSides PDX conference.
FAB Lab students are focused on fashion! Students were invited to intern at Fashion NXT, the largest fashion show on the West Coast, and ranked #1 in the US by Forbes magazine. CAL students worked alongside industry professionals from top to bottom to produce the show. Students also had special access to the designers! This was a life-changing event for our students.
I am looking foward to the second half of the school year!
Best,
Mrs. Gallagher
CAL Finals Schedule
First semester CAL finals will be held on Thursday, January 18 and Friday, January 19 during our regular scheduled day.
Monday, January 22 and Tuesday, January 23 will be make-up finals days for CAL students. For more detailed finals information, students will communicate directly with their teachers.
Inclement Weather Planing
As a reminder CAL aligns our inclement weather decisions with the Gresham-Barlow School District as our building is within GBSD district boundaries. As a major weather event has been forecasted, I wanted to share that our district partners and CAL are closely monitoring the situation.
If at anytime you feel it is unsafe for your student to attend school, you may make the decision to keep them home. We will alert our families of any early dismissal or closure using Parent Square. This ensures families have been contacted via phone, text, and email.
