Parent Report Card
You made it! Your children have finished the first quarter of the school year and they have grown so much. Parent conference season is upon us and it is time for teachers to share with you the progress your children have made and to set some goals for further growth.
As parents, it is also a good time to see how YOU are doing! Click on the Oakview Parent Report Card link (also found on our OES website under 'Parents'). Print the report card, and rate yourself on some of the major areas of parenting such as Home Environment, Communication, High Expectations, and Support. After completing, reflect on how you did and set some growth areas for yourself. Know that your principal and teachers are proud of the work you have accomplished this quarter!
For children,

GEOBEE Competition
It's time to start preparing for the OAKVIEW GEOBEE sponsored by National Geographic. This competition challenges fourth and fifth grade students to learn about world geography, ecosystems and international issues. To help your child prepare, download the study guide provided by National Geographic. If you need a hard copy, notify Jessica Preisig. You can also visit the online GeoBee Study Corner.
On Thursday, November 7th, all students that want to participate in the school geography bee will be given an online assessment. The assessment will be taken in the classrooms immediately after the morning news show. The top ten scores will advance to the school geography bee. If there are more than 10 students that advance, a “tiebreaker” assessment will be given on Friday, November 8th. The 10 students participating in the school geography bee will be notified by 2:30pm on November 8th.
The School Geography Bee will be held in the cafeteria on Monday, November 25th at 8:30am. Families of participating students will be invited to attend.
The school winner will take the state qualifying test sometime in December or January, depending on the student’s preference. The deadline for the state qualifying test is Friday, February 7th. On Monday, March 2nd State Geobee qualifiers will be announced. Friday, March 27th is the State GeoBee.
