Happy Birthday To:

Peyton: Jan. 4

Happy New Year!!!

Happy New Year!!!

Welcome Back! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and a relaxing break! I'm so excited to be back and to get started again. Just a quick reminder: Please remember to send gloves, hats, and warm coats to school each day. We will try to go outside for at least 5-10 mins. The kids truly love recess and it's good to get a little fresh air.

Idaho Food Bank:

Thank You!! Thank You!! Our Christmas food drive was a HUGE success! Our class collected 90 food items and Miss Hilary's class collected 157 (yes, they won our in-class competition-Congrats to Miss Hilary's class :) Together Sunshine families were able to donate 247 food items to the Idaho Food Bank!! Miss Hilary and I were so excited and can't wait until next year!

Please read all the information below to find out all the new and exciting things starting this week. I will also be sending a newsletter home on Monday explaining everything. Make sure to check out the new January Calendar in the BEE binder!

Sight Words:

New sight word cards will be coming home this week. We are hoping your child has mastered Trimester 1 words and now we are ready to work on Trimester 2 words. Remember there is a complete list in their BEE binders. I'm going to try a give a quick popcorn assessment at least once a week to make sure everyone is staying on track. A quick 5 min practice at home everyday would help! Here's some quick fun ways to practice: bingo, tic tac toe, flash cards with a secret word mixed in, play any board game (replace the cards with sight word cards).

Watch Me Read
Kindergarten is a very exciting time in your child's life. They are learning letters and sounds and even starting to blend those letters and sounds together. They are starting to READ!! We have put together a Watch Me Read book for you and your child to enjoy. It is located in their BEE binder, so they will have it with them at all times. I will assign 1 story and 1 list of words each week. Please listen to your child read the story and list daily. When you feel like they have mastered both the story and list please sign it off. I am hoping they have it signed off by Friday so they can then read it to me and get a scratch and sniff sticker (remember how cool those were??) The story & list will be posted on the monthly calendar. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Thanks for your help! Happy Reading! :)

Library on Fridays
Every Friday your child will be able to choose and check out one library book from our classroom library. I'm not expecting the kids to read these books by themselves, more just reading them for enjoyment. I'm hoping you and your child can sit down once a week and read this book together. These books will come home on Fridays with a book report inside. The book and book report will not need to be returned until the next Friday. Your child will not be able to check out a new book until they return the old one. There will be a special prize every time your child completes four book reports. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks :)

IRI Testing in January
Every Monday I will attach an IRI practice sheet to your child's homework. Please keep these at home and practice them on a daily basis. Thanks :)

Jammies in January
When I think of January, I think of cold winter days and how much I love to curl up with a good book and read. So every Friday in January your child will do the same. Everyone can wear their jammies to school, bring a small blanket and a favorite stuffed friend to read with. We will curl up and read from 9:30-9:45. We will be reading out loud, partner reading and silent reading. We will be reading our paper books that you've been sending back. If your child would like to read something else, they may bring a book from home. What a fun way to get excited about reading!

Wow! I know that's a lot. Please let me know if you have any questions!

I couldn't do my job without your help & support, so THANK YOU!

Miss Sara
