Thank you to everyone who donated to Sartorette’s Holiday Giving Heart program. Special thanks to Home & School Club Outreach Chair Catherine Puntanilla and our office staff for organizing and spreading holiday cheer to so many appreciative families.
Update on Returning to In-Person Instruction
This is a reprint of the update provided by Superintendent Dr. Carrie Andrews to Cambrian families yesterday.
Dear Cambrian Families,
Cambrian School District is continuing to prepare for the return to in-person instruction in 2021 when we are able to do so safely based on Santa Clara County returning to the Red Tier for 2 weeks. For more information please see the CSD Update - 12.04.20 https://www.smore.com/tebsj for specific details.
When we return to in person instruction there is a need for flexibility in order to address the County Public Health requirements with regards to various situations such as those individuals that may be impacted by a quarantine due to being a close contact and/or COVID-19 positive case. Additionally, we also have a need to support our families who are not ready to have their child return when the county health status moves into the Red Tier, but have a desire to return to in-person instruction this school year. Families not planning for their child to return to in-person instruction for the rest of the school year would need to request to be in the Virtual School Program.
In determining the least impact on students and staff, we will not be reconfiguring the elementary (TK-5) classrooms. Therefore, students will not be moving into new classes nor will teachers be reassigned when we return to in-person instruction. However, families for Price Middle School and Steindorf 6-8 students will need to adhere to the Public Health Department guidelines and directions from their respective school site to support the possible changes in the school Master Schedule.
What day will my student attend in-person?
All students will be placed in cohorts for designated days for in-person instruction. The cohorts will be determined by each school site team (teachers/site principal). You will receive communication from your child’s school site in advance of returning to in-person.
What happens if my student can not attend on their designated in-person day?
When students who are not able to attend their in-person assigned cohort days due to related COVID-19 quarantine, contact tracing requirements and/or are not ready to return to in-person instruction, students will Zoom with their class for live synchronous instruction during that specified time.
While the expected instructional school day for the hybrid model is from 8:15 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. for grades TK-5 and 8:15 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. for grades 6-8, it is intended to provide teachers the discretion and flexibility to create the learning plan within that time frame that is most developmentally appropriate for their students. All teachers will use Zoom with students who cannot attend on their designated in-person cohort day. Zoom during in-person is not intended to accommodate family travel or distance learning for the remainder of the school year.
Ultimately, our goal is to have everyone back for in-person instruction on a daily basis. This transition period to the hybrid model will serve as a temporary bridge until we can do so.
Thank you for your patience and support during this difficult time. By working together, we will be in the classroom sooner rather than later. We are Cambrian!
Thank you for partnering with us for your child’s education.
All the best,
Debbie Stein

Reporting Illnesses
In an effort to maintain the health and safety of students and staff in the age of COVID-19, when parents/guardians call school to report students absent due to illness, please know that we may ask about symptoms and send helpful follow up information related to COVID-19. If your child is COVID-19+, we will call to ask about their symptoms and testing, and if the student has been on any Cambrian School District campus. For students participating in any on-campus programs, calls reporting illness will be followed up with specific instructions for the ability to return to campus.
Families/guardians will receive communication from Principal Stein as to designated days your child would return for in-person instruction a week prior to the return for each grade level.
Every effort will be made to maintain current teacher/class assignments and minimize the shuffling of classes, but classroom placement changes may be inevitable for those choosing distance learning. Parents/Guardians will be notified prior to students being moved to a different classroom.

Mental Health
Care Solace, Free Mental Health Referrals
The Cambrian School District has partnered with Care Solace, an online resource that makes it easier for students and families to connect with mental healthcare resources and providers in their communities.
Care Solace is an online resource with a live 24/7 concierge meant to assist individuals in finding local mental health related programs and counseling services. Care Solace is a tool for school staff and families to connect with community-based mental healthcare resources and providers. Their proprietary care navigation system taps into a vast database of mental healthcare resources to find carefully vetted local therapists and programs in minutes.
School district families and staff may access Care Solace services in two ways:
Call (888) 515-0595 to speak with someone from your Concierge team
Representatives are standing by to take your call or email 24/7
Visit your custom district link at www.caresolace.com/csd
Answer ten easy questions to receive an extensive list of referrals to applicable care providers. Care Solace takes into account all types of private insurance including Medi-Cal, Medicaid, and Medicare and those that have no insurance. The platform also filters by age, gender, zip code and special request.
Please refer to the attached flyer for more information. This flyer is interpreted into several different languages.
Returning to In-Person Instruction on Campus
Note: All students enrolled in the Cambrian Virtual School Program (VSP) will continue to receive their education virtually/online for the duration of the school year. The following information pertains to students enrolled in Distance Learning through their home school sites.
Currently, we are continuing to prepare for January 2021 with the goal of bringing students back for in-person instruction pending the Santa Clara County Department of Health and what tier we are in at that time.
Santa Clara County is presently in the PURPLE tier, so we are monitoring the conditions and progress and will act accordingly as we get closer to our projected return dates for in-person instruction. The Governing Board has scheduled a tentative Board Meeting for January 7th if needed based on the conditions of Santa Clara County prior to returning to in-person instruction in January.
As a friendly reminder, Cambrian School District will return to in-person instruction for students pending if Santa Clara County returns to the RED tier or a less restrictive tier. Following are the tentative hybrid school schedules:

Families/guardians will receive communication from Principal Stein as to designated days your child would return for in-person instruction a week prior to the return for each grade level.
Every effort will be made to maintain current teacher/class assignments and minimize the shuffling of classes, but classroom placement changes may be inevitable for those choosing distance learning. Parents/Guardians will be notified prior to students being moved to a different classroom.

Families in Need
Dear Cambrian Family,
In this time of trouble and uncertainty, we know that many families are facing housing crises. As part of a county wide effort to identify and support families in need, we are reaching out to every family in the Cambrian School District. If your family is dealing with one of the following situations, you can qualify for and receive support:
- In a house or apartment with more than one family due to loss of housing or economic hardship
- In substandard housing (without electricity, water, or heat)
- In a shelter
- In a motel, hotel, or weekly rate housing
- In an abandoned building, in a car, at a campground, or on the streets
If your family is experiencing one of the above situations you are eligible to be enrolled in the federal program created by the McKinney-Vento Assistance Act. If your family qualifies under the McKinney-Vento act, it would provide several protections for students enrolled in the program. The benefits for students in the McKinney Vento Program are as follows:
- Support from Cambrian District McKinney Vento Liaison to help connect you with housing services in the county
- Enrollment in school immediately even without documents normally required for enrollment such as: proof of residency, immunization records, school records, or legal guardianship papers
- Participate fully in all school activities for which your child qualifies
- Upon request, receive transportation to and from school
- Automatic qualification for our free lunch and the district distance learning food distribution programs
- Continue to attend the school in which the student was last enrolled, even if you have moved away from that school’s attendance area
If you have questions about the program, or your housing situation has changed, please complete this google form and a Cambrian representative will contact you within 36 hours. If you would like a paper form to complete, please stop by or call the District office.

VSP Donations & Parent Volunteers
Cambrian’s Virtual School Program (VSP) was created to meet the needs of our community during COVID-19. VSP is not a school and does not have a formal Home & School Club as students will be returning to their home school site next year. However, like our counterparts at other Cambrian school sites, donations to VSP would be very much appreciated to benefit students. Donations can be made to the Cambrian School District, but you must clearly indicate that the donation is intended for the Virtual School Program. Teachers and Principal Stein will work together to determine how donations to VSP will be used to benefit VSP students.
We would also appreciate parent involvement similar to what’s provided through Home & School Clubs at other Cambrian school sites. Our staff is working together to determine our needs to make our Virtual School Program a place where we all feel like we belong with spirit and pride thanks to a strong staff and parent partnership. Please email Principal Debbie Stein at steind@cambriansd.com if you’re willing to serve as a parent volunteer to help support this year’s Virtual School Program.
