Joyfully Embracing Our Mission
St. Clare School Family Newsletter | 20 September 2018
Who is the greatest?
“Whoever receives one child such as this in my name, receives me;
and whoever receives me,
receives not me but the One who sent me.” ~Mark 9
Dear St. Clare School Families,
Have you ever heard of the power of influence? Sometimes, it isn't the person with the title or the wisest person in the room that holds the power. Sometimes, it is the person who has influence over others that holds the power. Jesus reminds us that the kingdom of God is within reach by being humble, not through influence, power or titles. We often see Jesus holding up children as an example of ones to be valued; for during his time, they were seen as the least.
Children have so much to teach us. All we need to do is listen.
COMING SOON! Parent-Student-Teacher Conference Sign Up
Our Parent and/or Student-Teacher Conferences are coming up the week of October 15. Very soon, you will see a post from me with a link to schedule for conferences. We will not be using the paper scheduler that was used in the past. You will now get a link to a Google Sheets file where you can select available time slots to meet with your student's teacher. Middle school students must see their homeroom teacher and may choose to see at least one other middle school teacher. More information and instruction to come next week. The sign up will be open for a period of about a week, so sign up early in order to get your preferred time slot.
JAMBA JUICE IS HERE!
Our first order of Jamba Juice will be delivered tomorrow at 12:15 P.M. If you sent in your order form and payment by Wednesday at 3 P.M., remind your students to pick up their smoothies by the 5th grade tables on the elementary side for TK-5 and by the lunch tables on the middle school side for 6-8. You can still order for the remainder of the trimester. You will find the form attached to the original post. (In ParentSquare, use the search function and type Jamba Juice to view the post.) Forms are also available in the office.
PROCESSES AND PROCEDURES | Fever-free for 24 hours
Please make sure to follow the Handbook recommendation to keep your child at home if they have a temperature of 99.9F or higher. Students must be fever free (without use of fever-reducing medicine) for 24 hours before they are to return to school. Thank you for keeping our school community safe!
Remember that only uniform outerwear/sweatshirts are allowed on uniform days. Check the uniform closet if you need one!

Gospel Reflection | 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time
This week's gospel predicts Jesus' death and resurrection, revealing his imminent suffering and subsequent joyous rising. In this periscope Mark forecasts the Passion and the disciples' baffled reaction. They squabble among themselves hiding their fright and terror. They are confused and cannot understand the idea of being servants, taking up their cross and following the path Jesus is describing. Their apostolic jostling reveals their blindness. Their shallow concept focuses on ambition and their own status. Jesus is nurturing the formation of his disciples instructing them to serve and give witness. Jesus takes a child and "placed it in their midst." (Mk9:36) Little children faithfully and joyfully learn and follow. Are we doing so with Jesus? Do we follow Jesus? Do we serve and lower ourselves as an ultimate leader, emulating the role model of Jesus?
Let us pray the prayer of the Lectio Divina. "Father, keep before us the wisdom and love. You have revealed in Your Son. Help us to be like Him in word and deed, for He lives and reigns with You and Holy Spirit, one God. May the words of my mouth always find favor, and the whispering of my heart, in Your presence, Lord, my Rock, my Redeemer. Amen."
