Summer School 2023
Summer school online registration can be accessed easily on the homepage of the School District of Beloit website in two locations: Under the tab Our District - on the first line, 2023 Summer School and on the icon titled Summer School (scroll down just a bit on the district's home page). Central Enrollment is also ready to assist anyone who needs help navigating online registration or prefers in-person registration. Click on the buttons below to access the guides. Online and in-person registration for our Summer School program begins on Friday, April 28.
Students in 4k-8th grade will attend Fruzen Intermediate and will have two, three-week sessions:
Session 1: June 20 to July 7 (no summer school July 3rd and 4th)
Session 2: July 11 to July 28 (no summer school on July 10th)
Students in 9th-12th grade will attend Aldrich Intermediate and will have a six-week session:
June 20 to July 28 (no classes on July 3rd, 4th, and 10th)
You can access our Summer School website for the link to register your student on Skyward and view the summer school guide on Friday, April 28. If you need assistance to register your student, you can visit our Central Enrollment office at the Kolak Education Center (1500 Fourth St.).

School Security:
Upon entering any district building or school, all visitors are required to sign in and present a picture ID AT EVERY VISIT. Acceptable IDs include state-issued IDs such as a driver's license, a passport, or a consular card. The ID will be scanned into the Raptor software system.

The School District has expanded the partnership with Beloit Community Health Systems (CHS) to provide onsite health care to students. Families should call (608) 361-0311 to set up an appointment at the High School. Elementary students will need to have a parent/guardian with them at any scheduled appointment. CHS will be onsite Tuesdays from 1-4pm and Thursdays from 8:00-12pm.
School health concerns can be discussed with the Converse health office at (608) 361-2115.

What Are We Learning at Converse?
4k Learning Targets for the Week:
Literacy: Students will identify the letter Z.
Math: Students will identify the number 10
Other: Students will follow playground rules.
Art-"Bumble Bee Pollen Fields" (Guided Painting) (2 Day Lesson)
On the first day of the lesson, the students will look at images of pollen fields and discuss the colors that they see--along what insects need pollen to survive. After bees are mentioned, (either by the students and/or instructor) the students will be given green and yellow tempera paint and will create three green stalks and then dot paint the yellow pollen clusters on the stalks. On the 2nd day of the lesson, the students will complete the project by creating a bumble bee somewhere on their pollen field painting, (with black and yellow oil pastel) in a location of their choice.Music:

5K Learning Targets for the Week:
Literacy: Students will be able to identify character, setting, finishing up IRLAs
Math: Students will be able to identify 3-D shapes.
Science:
Social Studies: Students will be able to tell about what life was like in the past.
Other: Students will be learn about creativity and PBIS expectations.
Art:
"Water and Chalk Pastel Color Blended Movement" (2 Day Lesson) on the first day of the lesson, the students will discuss with the instructor all the colors that they have in their color pack--emphasizing the primary, secondary and introducing the tertiary colors. Then, the students will look at various colorful backgrounds using colors to create movement across the paper. By the end of the 1st day, the students will have used a variety of the chalk pastels to color in the entire space of a 9X12 sheet of construction paper--with shapes and lines, (shaded in). On the second day of the lesson, the students will complete the assignment by brushing water across the entire sheet of paper--resulting in their colors/shapes to blend together.

"Watercolor Bird Houses" (2 Day Lesson). On the first day of the lesson, the students will look at various bird houses on Google Images, and how they can be both decorative and functional. Then, they will be given a basic Bird House Template to paint with a variety of watercolor paints. On the 2nd day of the lesson, the students will complete the assignment by adding a colored construction paper backing of their choice and add texture to it--by making frayed edges with paper-shaper scissors.

2nd Grade Learning Targets for the Week:
Literacy: Students will be able to write opinions on a job that they research.
Math: Students will be able to make and analyze data in a bar graph based on the results of a survey.
Science: Students will be able to identify the different parts of a plant and what they need to survive.
Art:"Flying Paper Origami Bird Designs". (2 Day Lesson) On the first day of the lesson, the students will briefly discuss the history of Origami Art--it;s origin and purpose(s). They will use a basic bird outline template to add detail to it, (of their choice) and color in with a variety of mixed mediums. On the 2nd day of the lesson, the students will cut out their bird creation and will take turns flying them in the Art Room.

3rd Grade Learning Targets for the Week:
Literacy: Students will be able to use their research notes to write the chapters of their own marine animal informational book.
Math: Students will be able to describe triangles, classify plane shapes, and relate shapes and area.
Science:
Social Studies: Students will be able to understand why communities are formed and how they change over time.
Other: Students will be able to show Creativity by naming things in a category and advocating for their emotions after the game.
Art:"Watercolor Straw-blowing Abstract Art". (2 Day Lesson) On the first day of the lesson, the students will look at various examples of Straw blown Abstract Paintings on Google Images--then they will paint a colorful watercolor background. On the 2nd day of the lesson, the students will complete the assignment by first seeing a demo, on how to correctly straw-blow paint across the background and then will begin to do so with their own work.

After School Care Option:
The YMCA is partnering with Converse to offer after school care. The YMCA after school program hours are 3:00 - 6 p.m. (Grades: 4K - 1st)

The After School Enrichment Program serves school-aged children with a variety of fun and educational activities designed to help our young learners. Be sure to let the YMCA know you are from Converse if you choose to sign-up. Registration forms are able to be filled out on line for enrollment and can be emailed back. Paperwork can also be dropped off at the Y. There is a registration fee to hold your spot.

Care Solace - New Mental Health Partnership
The School District of Beloit is committed to the well being of our students, staff and families to create a safe and healthy learning environment. In support of this ongoing commitment, the district has engaged in a partnership with Care Solace to provide an additional layer of care for our school community.
Care Solace is a mental health coordination provider that helps individuals quickly connect with verified mental health care providers and substance use treatment centers. This service is designed to work alongside the district’s multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) and to help schools triage and support student mental health needs and provide confidential wraparound resources. Their multilingual Care Companion team is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year to connect students, staff and families to carefully verified providers in our community. The Care Solace navigation system taps into a vast database of mental healthcare resources to provide a match with therapists and programs based on insurance, location, mental health concerns, and other parameters, regardless of income level.

Please do not send treats containing nuts or peanut butter due to allergies. Homemade treats and baked goods are not allowed at school parties or for birthday treats.
