DK/K Information Night
DK/K Registration
Kindergarten/developmental kindergarten enrollment for the 2022-2023 school year has begun. Royal Oak Schools processes new student enrollments online at www.royaloakschools.org Click on the "Enrollment" tab and then "How to Enroll" to begin this process. Once you have completed the online enrollment, including step 5 which is uploading the required enrollments, our enrollment staff will process the enrollment and send a confirmation email. If you are not able to do so at home, please contact Gina Harwood, Enrollment Coordinator at gina.harwood@royaloakschools.org to schedule an appointment for assistance.
Michigan State Law stipulates that a child must be 5 years of age on or before September 1 in order to enroll in kindergarten or developmental kindergarten for the 2022-2023 school year. If a child is not 5 by the September 1 enrollment eligibility date, but will be 5 no later than December 1, an option for parents or guardians to enroll their child in kindergarten/developmental kindergarten is available by completing an Age Waiver form which is available on the website.
Internal Elementary Transfer Request forms are also available on the website. If a parent wishes to request their child attend a school other than their attendance boundary school, a completed form must be submitted to the Enrollment Office in person by February 28th at 4:00 p .m. in order to have priority consideration. Receipt of a completed transfer form is not a guarantee that your child will receive a spot. Further information is available in the Transfer Request Guidelines document on the website.
Reflections Update and Another Opportunity
Did your student miss the opportunity to participate in the Reflections Art Program and is looking for another opportunity to create and compete? If so, please consider participating in Governor Whitmer’s search for a K-12 student to design the 2022 State of the State program cover following the theme, WHY DO YOU BELIEVE IN MICHIGAN? Students can use crayon, marker, paint, or any other material to highlight what makes Michigan so special to them. All artwork must be uploaded online by Sunday, January 16th at 11:59 PM to be considered. Click here for more information. If you’re in need of free art supplies, please contact Julie Farhat at julie.farhat@gmail.com.
Michigan Animal Rescue League Donations
Dear Northwood community:
My name is Ellie Fish, I am a former Northwood student and currently a senior at Royal Oak High School. In our senior year, we get to construct a Senior Service Project and give back to our community. For my project, I will be working with an amazing organization located in Pontiac called the “Michigan Animal Rescue League” or MARL.
MARL prides itself on being “a different breed of shelter” and from the short time I’ve spent there, I can see why. Unlike a lot of other animal shelters, MARL offers sanctuary to abandoned animals for as long as they need it, whether that be until they are adopted, or for the rest of their life. They take in so many animals and strive to give them the highest quality of care they can. However, that's not always easy.
It is the unfortunate truth that most animal shelters are underfunded and understaffed. Due to this they struggle bringing in more animals in need, and with providing the animals with the level of care they need to become suitable for adoption. For my project I will be volunteering at MARL, along with this, I am hoping to collect any goods they need to maintain the level of care they provide the animals. This is where I need your help.
Located in Northwood there are three empty dog houses, our goal is to fill them by the end of January. Below there is a list of the items MARL needs, there is also a QR code that will take you to an Amazon wishlist full of supplies. Anything helps and everything is appreciated. Thank you so much for your time, if you have any questions or would like any additional information please feel free to contact me by text, call, or email. My phone number is
(248) 820-1755 and my email is eafish04@gmail.com. Thank you again!
Sincerely,
Ellie Fish
