UPDATES
LIBRARY
I wanted to share a great resource with you!
If you have a Harris County Public Library card or if you sign up for the iknow digital library card at http://www.hcpl.net/iknow you will have access to lots and lots of ebooks, movies, music and magazines through the library!
They have Tumblebooks which has children’s books and more, Flipster (magazines), Hoopla (movies and music). It is a wonderful resource!
At some point, every Spring branch student will have this same access.

CLINIC
You may have heard that there have already been cases of lice here at school. Please know that a letter has been sent home to students in the affected grades.
Although they are a nuisance, head lice have nothing to do with cleanliness or parenting skills. Almost every year students return to school with lice after summer sleep overs, public movies, riding on airplanes, going to summer camp, sharing brushes, hats and sleeping bags, and numerous other activities where there is very close or direct head to head contact.
Spring Branch ISD has a lice policy that follows the guidelines of the American Pediatric Society. Please check your child’s hair on a regular basis and notify the school and the parents of your child’s playmates if you find lice.
If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact me at 713-251-6225.

HEALTH FITNESS
We have been having a great time in Health Fitness!
Students have learned some MWE chants that we do as warmups.
In addition, our 4th and 5th graders have been and will be issued a challenge from their coaches. Coach Garza LOVES to run and has challenged students to see who can beat her! Coach Hollmann will be issuing a running challenge in the very near future.

Art Facebook Page
Mrs. Waggenspack has created a Facebook page to show what our students are doing in art classes.
Be sure to go to Mrs. Waggenspack's Art Room on Facebook and "Like" her page, so that you can receive updates.
Front Desk Computer
We are still having problems with the computer at the front desk. We have received a new hard drive, but we are having problems with installing the necessary programs. Our SBISD tech department has been working diligently to get this resolved as soon as possible.
Your patience is much appreciated!
TRANSPORTATION
Morning Car Rider Updates
We have made some updates and changes to our morning car rider line:
We will have at least 2 to 3 adults out front every day: Mrs. Barry or Ms. Redd, our teaching staff will rotate this duty on a weekly basis and Mrs. Karen Lewis will be out front every day. Mrs. Lewis will be able to remain out front until 8:00 a.m. Our WatchDOGS will also help out with car rider duty in the mornings.
We have put cones out front in addition to the "Pull Forward" signs to help drivers know exactly where to pull up and stop.
Car Rider Line Reminders
Children should not be dropped off out front before 7:30 a.m. Our staff is required to arrive by 7:30 a.m., which means there is no supervision in the front area prior to that time.
PLEASE stay in your car. Getting out of your car is not only unsafe, but holds up the line for other drivers.
Students should exit from the curb side only. Having them enter and exit from the curb side helps to keep them safe.
If you are not going to be able to drive off right away, we ask that you either pull up way ahead of the other cars, or pull over into the left lane. Otherwise, you are holding up the line for our other drivers.
Construction Update
The next big change on Memorial is that cars will NOT be able to turn left on Memorial Green - heading East Bound on Memorial Dr. This will begin on Tuesday, September 6, 2016. The contractor estimates that this turn will remain unavailable for approximately 4 weeks.
Some suggested alternate routes:
North on Tully, Right on Fern or Mackilsee, Left on Country Place
Right on Kimberly, Right on Kirkwood, Right on Memorial, Right on Memorial Greens
OR
Continue East on Memorial and detour through White Wing or Rancho Bauer Dr. (this will be a difficult left turn back onto Memorial Dr.)
OR
IH 10 to Kirkwood to Memorial Dr.
In addition, the construction company will continue to keep an Officer at Clear Springs to keep the traffic flowing. Morning arrival and departure times for the buses will continue to be monitored.
The contractor will continue to work with us and keep us abreast of any upcoming changes.

State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR)
Parent Survey
Texas PTA members are encouraged to go to the link below and complete the survey regarding STAAR’s CSR – Confidential Student Report.
The CSR is used by parents, teachers, and students to communicate a student’s acquisition of the knowledge and skills required to be taught in Texas public schools. Student academic performance is measured in required grades and subject areas using the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) in grades 3-8 and high school. The CSR serves as an important communication tool that enables collaboration and cooperation between a student’s school and home.
School/District Accountability Reports
The 2016 Complete State Accountability Reports have been delayed. The Texas Education Agency recently released information with changes in the dates for the release of information related to the 2016 accountability ratings and reports.
The release date of the system safeguards, distinction designations and accountability summaries has been delayed to September 16th for both districts and the public.
STAAR FAQ
The Frequently Asked Questions from the Texas Education Agency about STAAR is now posted on our website. You may also access this document by clicking the link below.
