EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT
Central Office Communications: Week of September 13, 2020
OUR CURRENT REALITY
To Our Egg Harbor Township School Community,
Overall, our first week of school was successful. Teachers and staff spent the last few days EMBRACING their students and building relationships, communicating with parents, providing clarity on schedules, student expectations and direction on resource distribution. I have to say the majority has made a smooth transition; others who have had difficulties have been assisted. I fully understand that there may still be some anxiety and angst with virtual learning however, all must realize that as long as the NJDOE RBS guidance is in place for schools, we will still need to conduct virtual learning in the hybrid module and for students who will choose the all virtual option. Our mission is to assist those who are having difficulty so that we all have a better grasp on virtual learning. This includes devices, operation of devices, assisting with schedules, virtual tools, and learning resources. If you need assistance, please contact your child’s principal.
All parents are reminded that attendance is mandatory and daily attendance will be taken. It is vital that your child attends school. The attendance policy will be in effect as daily attendance has to be reported to the NJDOE. The Parent Portal is a great resource for school information, grading, attendance and more. You can learn more about how to obtain an account through our parent learning series. http://bit.ly/EHTParentSeries
The district’s scaffolded model for Phase 1 for students with special needs will begin on September 14th. Here are the schedules for the programs:
Slaybaugh Primary: Preschool Inclusion (½ day)
Slaybaugh Primary: Preschool Disabled (full day)
Davenport Primary/Elementary: Multiply Disabled
Miller School: Multiply Disabled
Alder Middle School: Multiply Disabled
High School: Multiply Disabled
Parents/Guardians are required to complete a daily health screening for their child who is attending in-person learning. This process will entail the completion of a daily health questionnaire prior to their child attending school. During Phase 1 parents/guardians will complete a Google Form that will be sent to them automatically every morning using School Messenger. In the event a response is not received by the school, an administrator or their designee will contact the parent/guardian to review the screening process. All teachers, staff, and students are expected to adhere to the Health and Safety guidelines that include social distancing, wearing of masks, and sanitizing of hands and surfaces.
A 20-21 Preschool Letter was mailed to parents on September 10th. Within the mailing specific information was provided for attending our in-person program that included health and safety protocols and the name of the child’s teacher. We look forward to seeing all of your children this Monday, September 14th.
We believe that all students – without exception – can achieve at high levels, and we are committed to ensuring each student’s continuous growth. Teachers are taking time building relationships with their students in order to provide relevant learning lessons for each student moving forward.
I appreciate your understanding during this unique time in education. We are doing our very best to meet the needs of our students and are embracing both parents and student inquiries and concerns. You are encouraged to send any questions that you may have to your child’s teacher, guidance counselor, assistant principal, principal, and/or child study team member. Using this contact process should provide you with relevant information. Social media comments are opinions and do not always represent the district's philosophy or practice and at times are emotional reactions to frustration. If you are not satisfied with the answers that you received at the building level, my central office team and myself are here to assist you. Items of concerns are always better resolved via live conversations. We stand by our mission to build healthy relationships with our community. Together we will continue to be #EHTStrong!
Yours in Education,
Kimberly A. Gruccio

CLIMATE & CULTURE
We look forward to our Renaissance teams coordinating welcome back activities for our students and staff to start off the school year on a positive note. The culture of our schools will include school improvement efforts to increase student achievement for ALL students. Through professional development opportunities, time and resources we are building an effective learning culture where students are provided a safe learning environment, where teachers collaborate in professional learning communities to review student progress, providing ALL students the opportunity to learn at high levels, and having individualized interventions through the RTI process to assist ALL students with learning. We know that in order to successfully educate each student, we must be cognizant of each student’s individual learning needs. This can only be accomplished if we work together to eliminate any predictability of achievement disparities by race, ethnicity, gender, language, disability, and/or economics. All faculty and staff participated in equity training during our professional learning days. The high school multicultural club will be preparing to join the district equity committee to participate in collaborative discussions and event planning.
